We have recently returned from a weekend stay at one of our favourite hotels, Chesford Grange in Warwickshire. Chesford Grange is part of the QHotels chain and we have stayed at the hotel every Summer since Olly was born. It’s a really warm and welcoming hotel perfect for families like ours and those wanting a relaxing weekend away in the Midlands.
As with any hotel break, you just want to be able to relax and enjoy the surroundings enjoying some quality time with your loved ones whilst the hotel take care of all the other details and this is exactly what you get at Chesford Grange. The staff are friendly and attentive and are more than happy to help with any queries.
Having had time to reflect on our stay here’s five reasons why you should stay at Chesford Grange this summer;
We love eating out as a family and my husband and I love trying new meals. We ate dinner on both nights of our stay in the hotel and was blown away at how far the food had come since we last stayed there. The menu was varied with options for vegetarians and those wanting to be careful with the calories. There was a set children’s menu with plenty of choice for hungry kids with favourites such as Sausage and Mash, Crispy Chicken Nuggets and Baked Salmon Fingers.
For starters, I ordered the Pan Fried Smoked Haddock Kedgeree Cake with Poached Hens Egg, Wilted Baby Spinach and Curried Sabayon whilst Greg ordered the Market soup of the day which was Leek and Potato. When my starter arrived, it was wonderfully presented on a charcoal slate and it looked amazing. There really has been a step up in the presentation since last year and you could certainly taste the difference.
On our second night, I enjoyed the Mushroom Risotto Bon Bons with Parmesan Fondue and Truffled Pea Shoots whilst Greg devoured the Warm Goats Cheese & Red Onion Scones with Mango Puree. All the starters we ate were delicious with just enough seasoning and were a real treat.
For our main course, both Greg and I ordered Rib-Eye Steak, with Sea Salt Baked New Potatoes for me whilst Greg enjoyed Grill Chips as his accompaniment. The steak was wonderfully tender, the new potatoes were incredible and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
On our second night, I opted for something a little different and ordered the Vegetable and Mixed Bean Cassoulet with Herb Scones and Truffled Pea Shoots. I really enjoy beans in my meals and this was no exception, the herb scones were the perfect addition and I really enjoyed it. Greg ordered the Roast Rump of Lamb, Lemon Thyme Dauphinoise, Grilled Asparagus & Port Jus which he said was really tasty with tender meat that just fell apart.
For dessert, over the two nights we enjoyed the White Chocolate & Raspberries, Red Berry Eton Mess and Iced Banana Parfait. Our desserts were a wonderful finale to a really delicious meal in The River Room restaurant.
2. Facilities for all the family
Chesford Grange has a selection of wonderful facilities for guests to enjoy. There’s the pool with dedicated splash times for the kids to enjoy, there’s a health club, solarium, steam room and heated loungers. Olly and Greg loved the pool and spent a couple of mornings in the water. It was wonderful to watch Olly splash about in the pool enjoying the warm water, he was having a fabulous time.
I booked in for my first ever treatment in the Spa which I was nervous about. I don’t really get the chance to pamper myself and having had a major body confidence issue for a number of years, it’s never been something that I have wanted to do. I booked in for a ESPA facial and absolutely loved it. My therapist, Suzanne, made me feel at ease and after a couple of minutes lying down on the bed in the treatment room, with windpipe instrumental music playing softly in the background, I could have easily fallen asleep.
My facial was amazing. Suzanne has wonderful firm hands and the massage on my face felt really good. Suzanne offered me some tips on how to combat some pesky wrinkles and explained to me all about what products were used during the treatment without the hard sell. I completely recommend the ESPA facial if you ever get the chance, my skin feels wonderful two weeks on.
3. Relaxed atmosphere and wonderful service
The hotel was busy over the weekend with various events going out (including Euro 2016 games being shown in the bar) but it never felt too busy. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and inviting. All the guests we saw around the hotel looked content and having enjoyed an evening in the bar with my laptop (I know, once a blogger always a blogger) I felt comfortable and at ease. All the staff were friendly, saying hello and asking if they could help me, I really did feel looked after.
We were particularly impressed by several staff members who were attentive to Olly during our meal times, including him in the conversation and making him feel like a special guest. Special thanks to Angela who was Olly’s favourite staff member and a credit to the hotel.
4. Large comfortable rooms
Our room was a brilliant size and easily could accommodate two adults and two small children. The beds were super comfy with the snuggliest pillows and mattress toppers meaning we all got a great nights sleep. The room was a great size which allowed us all to space our and relax without being on top of each other. It was perfect for Olly’s small collection of toy cars, bedtime story books and Little Ted, leaving me with space to read a magazine and drink a coffee in the armchair in the window whilst Greg relaxed on the bed watching the television. Bliss!
Chesford Grange is a wonderful base to explore Warwickshire. On Saturday, we visited Warwick Castle which was a short drive from the hotel and had a great day despite the silly British weather.
On previous visits, we have enjoyed visiting Stratford-upon-Avon and sailing down the River Avon, shopping in Leamington Spa and walking around the grounds of the hotel which are beautifully kept. Olly even made a friend in the gardens.
We had a wonderful stay at Chesford Grange. From the food to the service, the atmosphere and the ambience, the hotel really is a home away from home where the Pimms is thirst quenching and you can eat as many pancakes as you like for breakfast.
Big thanks to Elaine and team at Chesford Grange for a fantastic stay. We hope to be back over the New Year period to enjoy the festivities. We were invited to Chesford Grange as guests but this doesn’t alter our opinions, it really is a lovely warm, welcoming hotel.
