“O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, how lovely are your branches” (Unknown)
One of my most favourite Christmas traditions in our house is decorating the tree. It marks the start of the festive period for us and it’s something that we love to see sitting pretty in the front window of our home with its twinkly lights on and our most treasured tree decorations.
This year to mark the start of our third Christmas with Olly, Pines and Needles sent us a real Christmas tree, an elegant 6ft Nordmann Fir Christmas Tree. It was delivered by a courier to our home at the beginning of December and the first thing that hit me when it was delivered was not just the sheer size of it but the wonderful fresh scent of a real Christmas tree. It was heavenly.
If you live in London, Pines and Needles themselves will deliver your tree but if you’re elsewhere in the country, a courier will deliver the tree for you.
The Nordmann Fir tree is one of my favourite varieties of trees as the tree can retain its needles for longer indoors. Pines and Needles suggest that the tree will usually last for around four weeks in a good condition before it begins to dry out.
The tree was really easy to set up. I put together the plastic stand and then lifted the tree into place and securing it into the base with the screws. I couldn’t wait to cut off the netting that was wrapped around the tree as I wanted to see the beautiful branches unfold and settle into place.
After letting the branches settle for a couple of hours, Olly was desperate to start decorating the tree so I let him loose with the big box of tree decorations and sat back and watched him.
We have a varied mix of tree decorations ranging from traditional green and red baubles to little souvenirs from our trips to the Christmas German market in Birmingham for Olly’s first Christmas and the handmade decorations I used to make before Olly came along.
We’ve had our Pines and Needles Christmas tree in place for just over two weeks now and I have to say I am really impressed. Our house smells of Christmas as the aroma the tree gives off is just wonderful. Apart from setting up the tree, we haven’t had that many needles drop off onto the floor. We’ve kept the tree watered over the last couple of weeks and it appears to have kept its shape.
There is absolutely no comparison to an artificial tree in my opinion. We’ve got an artificial tree up in the loft but I can see us keeping it up there next Christmas as we just love our real Christmas tree; the smell, the structure of the tree, it’s beautiful branches. It’s just really lovely.
If you haven’t got your Christmas tree yet, you can get one delivered from Pines and Needles online here and if you use the code SHILTS you’ll get £10 off your order!
