6 weeks on..

Tomorrow marks 6 weeks post birth and C-section and I’m really chuffed to have reached this point. Not wishing time away or anything but the past 6 weeks have been such a whirlwind; there have been lots of tears, pangs of guilt over not breastfeeding and moments when I’ve thought ‘I really don’t know what I’m doing’ but they have all been outweighed by the sheer amount of love I’ve felt for such a small little boy. I’m completely besotted with him.

Olly is thriving. At his last weigh in, he was a whopping 9lb 15oz (4 weeks and 5 days old) and he’s now outgrown all his newborn clothes and well into his 0-3 clothing. Luckily, we were given a lot of clothes as gifts so this week I’ve been washing his clothes and have filled his wardrobe with cute little outfits. We have had to buy some vests as no-one really buys the boring stuff. I’ll be posting a blog post shortly about the baby essentials that have got us through the last 6 weeks and what we think other parents like us would need for their first born.

We’re starting to get a few smiles and were able to capture this little beauty on camera earlier today, isn’t he adorable?

My days on maternity leave are still full of randomness. We haven’t yet been to any groups or clubs as I’m still getting used to the late nights and early mornings. Usually Olly wakes about 3am so have been feeding him which takes about an hour all in with the warming of the bottle and the winding involved, then we’re back in bed until 7am (ish) when hubby is up for work. We’re really lucky that he’s only really getting us up once through the night as it could be a lot worse!

So 6 weeks on after my section and I can finally get back in my car without invalidating my insurance. I haven’t driven for about 3 months and unfortunately my poor car has been sitting outside in the cold. It’s been snowed on three times (January, February and March snowfall) and I was really hoping this weekend I could get it jump started (the battery died back in January) so I could get out and about. Mother nature however has had other plans and my car is now buried under 4 or 5 inches of snow. It’s Spring for flips sake!

My scar has finally healed well and I’m no longer suffering with the infection. It’s taken a good 5 to 6 weeks of recovery time to get me back to feeling reality normal so after my post natal check on Monday, I’ll be back at WW and back on the diet wagon. I won’t be doing any strenuous exercise though as the Physio advised to refrain from that for at least 6 months so Zumba’s out the window but I’m hoping to get out walking and will be attempting to go further distances over the next few months. I think I’m finally left with about 4 stone of extra weight now all my swelling has gone down and although I’m pretty gutted I’ve put on so much, I’m not going to beat myself up about it. There are more serious and important things in life and I’m sure that being sensible will help some of the weight drop off.

There’s lots coming up on the blog over the next few weeks, the Easter holidays are just around the corner and we’re off to Cardiff for some family fun. Life is good!

Olly is adorable! Sounds like you are recovering well now… Don’t feel guilty about anything EVER.. Babies don’t come with instruction manuals and we all have to do what’s right for us!

I know how you feel about the weight gain. With my first (7.5 years ago) I also gained 4st… Since, I’ve lost 2st, got pregnant, gained 2st and now I’ve lost 4st and am 5.5lb from my pre-children weight all them years ago. :)

You’ll get back to where you want to be!

I'd love to hear from you
