Enjoying a day of family fun at Uttoxeter Races // Everyone’s Turf (AD)

Last weekend, I took the boys and my parents to check out the fun at Uttoxeter Races. They were holding the Burton Albion Family Fun Day as part of the newly launched campaign Everyone’s Turf. The campaign aims to show that a day at the races is for everyone and we certainly had a brilliant day out. There was fantastic food and drink, brilliant entertainment for the children and not forgetting, thrilling horse racing too! 

The boys have experienced a day at the races previously but as it had been a while they were excited to see what the day had in store for them. My parents have never been to the races before so it was a whole new experience for them. None of us had visited our now local racecourse, Uttoxeter, so we were all excited to have a look around and enjoy the day as part of the Everyone’s Turf campaign.  

Burton Albion Family Fun Day 

As soon as we arrived at the racecourse, my youngest was excited to see the horses in the Parade Ring. Prior to any racing, the horses are led around the parade ring for racegoers to look at them. This is a fantastic opportunity to get up close to the horses and see just how big they really are. Both my boys were surprised at how tall the horses were and getting so close to the horses was definitely a bonus for them. 

In the Centre Course Enclosure, we could see all the inflatables, the fun fair and all the activities for children. There was a brilliant inflatable assault course which Olly loved and a smaller bouncy castle for the smaller children. There was also Crazy Golf to enjoy free of charge too. For a small donation to charity, there were football games which the boys loved taking part in and face painting too.

There were also fun fair rides and fun fair games which the children loved. Both the boys managed to hook a bag and take home a bag of goodies! There were food outlets and sweet stands which pleased the boys as they were able to spend some of their summer holiday pocket money on a bag of sweets. As part of the family fun day, there were also two Burton Albion Mascots meeting families and collecting for charity. The boys loved meeting Billy and Bettie Brewer. 

Fantastic food in the 1907 restaurant 

We were invited to enjoy a meal in the 1907 restaurant at Uttoxeter Racecourse and it was a real treat. We were treated to a four-course sit down meal which was really delicious. Starters on the menu included Chicken and Apricot Terrine, Cream of Celeriac Soup, Salmon, Crayfish, Dill and Smoked Salmon Terrine and Tomato, Provençale, Mascarpone and Basil Tart. Main courses included Roast Sirloin of beef, Pan seared breast of Chicken, Pan seared sea Trout and Pan Fried Gnocci. Desserts included Sticky Toffee Pudding, Baked Vanilla Cheesecake and Glazed Lemon Tart. The fourth course was cheese and biscuits with tea or coffee. 

For children, they were able to enjoy Melon or Tomato Soup to start. They could choose Sausage, Chips and Peas or Chicken Goujons with Chips and Peas. For dessert, they both enjoyed a chocolate brownie. The whole meal was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and all the staff were really friendly and helpful. 

The 1907 restaurant has panoramic views over the racecourse and it was really good to see the whole racecourse in front of us. We were able to enjoy the racing from the balcony as well as over in the Centre Course Enclosure. 

Everyone’s Turf 

We all had a brilliant day out at Uttoxeter Races. We all loved to pick horses with our favourite names from the programme and whilst we didn’t win anything, it was good fun trying to pick a winner based on their name instead of their form. With over 400 racedays happening across England, Scotland and Wales this summer including 33 Family Days (where under 18s race free at most fixtures), 36 Music Nights and 27 Ladies Days, it really is Everyone’s Turf. 

It was a brilliant day for the boys to spend some time with the Grandparents after missing out on so much over the last few years, it was really great to be able to do something together again. We really enjoyed our day at Uttoxeter Racecourse and we are already looking to go back as a family in the coming months.
