Travelling to the worlds most iconic cities is something we would love to do one day. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime trip but we would love to visit New York with the family one day and experience all of its sights and sounds. New York, on the East Coast of America is made up of 5 boroughs with the busiest and probably the most well known, being Manhattan. We would love to visit one day and this is what’s on our bucket list.
Things to do in New York with the family
Visit Times Square
It’s in films and TV programmes, Times Square is one of the most iconic tourist destinations on earth. It’s a commercial intersection and a hub for NYC entertainment. I’m sure it would be a fleeting visit as we soak up the atmosphere but it would be a sight to remember. Top tip: Buy tickets for New York attractions before you go and you’ll save money ahead of your trip. Buying tickets from retailers in Times Square is said to be expensive.

Look out from Empire State Building Observation Deck
It’s been standing as one of the cities tallest buildings since 1931, this 102-story Art Deco skyscraper is a must see on a trip to New York. We would marvel in the world below us as we stood on the observation deck and have an incredible 360° views across the city. It would be nerve inducing though, as it’s an whopping 381 metres tall.
Visit the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum
My family love all things space and military so the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum would be an absolute must on our bucket list for New York. It’s home to the aircraft carrier Intrepid that launched in 1943 and helped America’s efforts in World War II. Over 50,000 military personnel have served aboard Intrepid and now it’s a museum to explore it’s varied history. What’s more, the space shuttle Enterprise is homed here along with the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine!

Visit Central Park and the Zoo
A trip to New York is not complete without a visit to Central Park. It’s an open space of 843 acres right in the middle of the busy city and has been featured in movies, television programmes and adverts all over the world. It’s a very busy park with tours, events, classes and attractions being held here. Central Park is also home to Central Park Zoo which is a fantastic family attraction. With over 130 different species to discover, there’s snow leopards, grizzly bears, penguins and Californian Sea Lions to name just a few.
Eat all the food
You can probably eat every type of food in New York. There’s restaurants all over the city, fast food outlets on every street, street markets and street sellers with corn dogs, hot dogs, waffles and more available. Lots of the city’s most popular restaurants require serious patience with long queues to wait for dine in service. We’ll be making a plan of food we absolutely must try before we go.
Go shopping
Shopping in New York is a must. Visits to Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Barney’s, Saks Fifth Avenue would be high on the list, if not to buy but just to browse and look around. There are flagship stores for Nordstrom, Gucci, Tiffany and Co to name just a few. The top end designers all have their stores here. We would probably have to take out a new mortgage for purchases in New York but can you imagine the fun you’d have!
These are just a few of the things we would love to do in New York. There is so much to see and do, it’s most definitely on our World Travel Bucket List.
