As a parent, I love being able to encourage my children to learn through creative activities and play. We have pots of paints, tubs of crayons and boxes of craft supplies that all can be utilised to help my children express their creativity. We have recently been introduced to Jaques of London, a UK based toy and games family run business who believe in the power of play. They invent and make wooden toys that are beneficial to children encouraging their love for learning. Jaques of London sent us one of their Wooden Easel and Stand to try out and it’s safe to say, both my children have absolutely loved it. 

Wooden Easel from Jaques of London 

We were sent the Wooden Easel to try out and it has been a huge hit. It arrived flat packed in an arty cardboard box with full instructions on how to easily assemble the easel.

The product is self-assembly as the easel is height adjustable to suit your children. It took me about twenty minutes to put the easel together and was relatively simple to do. You don’t need any special tools, everything you need to assemble it is in the box. Once assembled, the easel was sturdy and felt really good quality. 

Double sided easel 

The easel is double sided with a chalkboard on one side and a wipeboard on the other. There’s a protective film covering on both sides which isn’t the easiest to remove but we tried our best but still have some of the covering stuck on the easel at the sides. 

The easel comes with a few accessories including a packet of chalks, a wipeboard pen and two board wipers. This means that the easel is ready to be used as soon as it’s built which is probably a good thing as my four year couldn’t wait to play with it. 

Useful paint pots and tray included 

The easel comes with a set of 3 paint pots which fit neatly into the tray that fits between the two boards. This tray is brilliant for keeping to hand crayons, chalks, pens and pencils ready to use on the easel. The paint pots come with 3 different coloured lids which are perfect for paint, water or storing chalk safely. 

Enjoying being creative on the easel 

Both my children (aged 4 and 9) have absolutely loved the easel. It has been a huge hit in our house with both children using it together at the same time. They’ve been writing notes, playing games and drawing pictures on it which has been wonderful to see. 

My youngest son is currently only attending nursery for a morning session but is full of ideas when he comes home at lunchtime. We’ve been encouraging his interest in this and have been using the wipeboard to help him with his letter formation, his number recognition and learning shapes. He loves practising the alphabet and enjoys wiping off his work and re-writing it if it doesn’t look right. We’re also positively encouraging him to practice and that getting things wrong is all part of learning and there is nothing wrong with that. He loves rubbing off his creations and re-doing it and it’s really fun to see him doing so. 

Encouraging writing confidence 

The wooden easel has been absolutely brilliant for helping Freddie feel comfortable with writing his own name. He has been given his name card at nursery and has been encouraged to practice at home.

Freddie has been using the easel to facilitate this and has really enjoyed learning, not only how to spell his name, but the whole family’s name too! 

We have loved the wooden easel and will be using it for all sorts of craft projects in months to come. We will be working on it making Easter crafts in the coming weeks. I can’t wait to see Freddie’s confidence grow as he learns more letters and words. It’s been a great addition to the house and highly recommend it to use with young, pre-school-aged children.
