If you’re ready to ask your significant other to tie the knot, chances are you’ve already thought about where you’re going to ask them. A proposal at home is an intimate and unforgettable way to pop the question that can be planned and personalised to the absolute T to completely suit everything you love about your partner. From custom engagement rings to perfectly planned out secret photoshoots, at home proposals are a big deal! In fact, according to The Knot 2021 Jewellery and Engagement Study (which surveyed over 20,000 couples who got engaged) 17% of the proposals happened at home – making it one of the most popular locations to ask your partner to marry you! Thinking of getting down on one knee in your own home? Here’s how you can plan the perfect at-home proposal.

Decorate your space

Making your home feel super special by decorating your space will make this occasion even more memorable. Signs, streamers, confetti, balloons… these wedding-themed decorations will also make for the perfect accompaniment to your first selfie as fiancés. Want something more pared down? Candles are always romantic, while fairy lights make great ambient lighting.

Get your loved ones involved

Getting your and your partner’s loved ones involved in the proposal is a lot easier when you’re in the comfort of your own home instead of somewhere in public. If they can’t get there in person, invite them on a virtual Zoom or Google Meets link to celebrate with you both after. If you do want to get family and friends involved, it’s also worth considering if your partner would want to spend some time with you alone before seeing their family so they’re not too overwhelmed after you ask the big important question!

Choose the right time

Deciding what time of the day to propose is tricky – but the right time can help your proposal go a lot smoother. If your significant other works later than you, an evening proposal could be a great idea. But if you’re worried about having to sneak around all day and dodge some difficult questions, a morning proposal might be a good shout.

Make it personal

While your home is already the place where you and your partner share special memories, some extra personal touches will make both your nights truly magical. Cooking your partner their favourite meal before you propose, creating a picture book of the timeline of your relationship together, or even getting your pets involved by guiding your beloved doggy into the room with a ring box or tying a note to your cat’s collar all make for an evening neither of you will ever forget.

With so many options for at-home proposal ideas, there really are plenty of creative and thoughtful ways to ask your significant other to marry you. And by asking them in the place where you both have so many happy memories, this moment will be incredibly special no matter what you decide to do!
