Collaborative Post
When we tend to think of appreciating ‘authentic culture,’ we tend to think about going abroad and seeing what a nation really has to offer as opposed to the sanitised, corporate view of whatever that may be.
We also tend to think about authenticity as being something outside of our own familiar surroundings, and what we know. So for example, to an average Brit, authentic Italian cuisine means heading to Italy and sampling beautiful family cuisine, crafted by Italian chefs, and perhaps with original recipes – for example, eating Spaghetti Carbonara with guancale, peccoroni, and absolutely no added cream.

To most Italians, however, they don’t really have to worry about being ‘authentic’ about their culture, it’s just their culture, and they appreciate having it. So – could the same be said for us? How might we recommend someone gets the best and most ‘authentic’ travel experience in the United Kingdom? What recommendations would we make? In this post, we’ll discuss that and more, with a few simple tips such a traveler, or the reader of this post, can use to get started:
Stay In A Beautiful, Relaxing Building
It’s a great idea to find a lovely, well-kept building, managed with care. The Black Swan Helmsley is a good example, with gorgeous rooms, great food, and a thoroughly welcoming atmosphere, venues and accommodation like this is the best of what Britain has to offer, also offering gorgeous architecture and surroundings you can appreciate during your entire stay. It’s good to find somewhere you can return to and de-stress after a busy day of exploration.
Experience The Best Of Cuisine
Contrary to some international misconceptions, British foods is delectable and a range of cuisines can be found here. From gorgeous shepherd’s pies in the winter to thick beef stews, Sunday roasts, full English breakfasts or simply being greeted with a range of teas to your start your day off right, English food is about depth of flavor, robust ingredients, and hearty cooking. Enjoying a pub lunch before heading to a theatre show, or opting for a wide array of amazing authentic cuisine (Britsh Indian cuisine is the national favorite for a reason), you’ll see how eating in the UK, as well as the national dishes from each country, can be ideal.
Delve Into The History
You’d be amazed at just how much history the United Kingdom has. While our history is certainly bound with conflict and battles, it’s also been a great centre of art, literature, music, and so many more cultural offerings. Simply heading to a Shakespeare theatre play, heading to the Roman baths, visiting large manor grounds with public-accessible gardens, or visiting cool ruins are all worth your time and can help you truly open up to the amazing world around you.
With this advice, you’re sure to get a lovely, authentic and rewarding UK travel experience. We’ll be sure to welcome you with nothing but open arms. Just remember to never put the milk in your tea before the hot water if you hope to keep the friends you meet!
