When it comes to attending a wedding, I always like to make an effort. Many years ago, we were invited to a friends wedding and I didn’t have a clue what to wear. Back then, I wasn’t very confident with my figure and ended up covering up wearing trousers with a top but spent the whole day feeling uncomfortable. I vowed from that day forward to never wear trousers again to a wedding and to this day, I’ve stuck to my word always choosing a pretty dress to wear instead.

Me and Mine July 2016

This summer, we were guests at our friends wedding with the reception being held at a local golf club. I wanted to wear something pretty and flattering, although my weight has crept up recently, I wanted to wear a dress that would fit me well and the occasion.

I chose this beautiful Studio 8 Jolene maxi dress and went up a size and I was so pleased with it. It has a beautiful cross over V-neckline which plunges down but not distastefully. I really liked the neckline and showing off a little skin.

The dress is a patterned mix of black, blues, purples, white and red flashes that flows in vertical stripes which I found to be really flattering. I love how the dress rested on the top of my shoulders and the length was perfect for me.

I wore the dress with my new red saltwater sandals purely because I didn’t have any other colour shoes to wear with the dress. I didn’t want to wear heels so teaming the dress with my flats worked well. It also meant I could keep after Olly when he was outside exploring the venue.

I was really pleased with my outfit for the day and had lots of lovely comments from friends who commented on my outfit choice. I did feel lovely in it and I think that showed on the day.

The maxi dress is available to buy from JD Williams and is in the sale for £77. It’s delicate wash only and I can’t wait to wear it again.

  1. A lovely dress and a such a lovely post to read in the midst of my own Slimming World journey. I’m big and have a lot to lose. Currently 20lb down and I have a wedding this Saturday. Just like you I have vowed to wear something pretty this time – I have always just looked like the bag lady! Thanks for posting.
