As it gets closer to the end of school and you’re starting to focus on the summer holidays, you may be trying to work out what to do with all that time. Whether you’re working for some of it, you work for yourself, or you’re a stay-at-home mum, it can be a lot of fun to think about how to really enjoy the summer together as a family. No matter how old your children are, you’ll find that there are a lot of summer activities that you can enjoy together as a family that everyone will love. But most of the time, you need to plan in advance in order to take the pressure off and make the six weeks as stress-free as possible. Let’s take a look at seven fun ideas you could try!

1. Go to the Coast

At the top of the list has to be heading to the coast. While the British weather isn’t always the best, we do have heatwaves! And when they strike, heading to the seaside is always a lot of fun. It might be a nostalgic feeling for you and something that you want to share with your children. Even if the weather isn’t great, heading out and enjoying the coastline is still fun. There’s always so much to do, and ending the day with some fish and chips is always the best!

2. Pack a Picnic

With food in mind, you could also consider heading out on a picnic! Summer and picnics go hand in hand. Plus, you can often do this on a budget. A few sandwiches, crisps, and fruit will always feel so much more exciting when you’re eating on a blanket. You can even do this in the garden without having to go out for the day! Plus, if you have a playdate or have friends over, you can also pack some wine for the adults!

3. Do a Day Trip

Then there’s the idea of going on a day trip. Again, this can be budget-friendly if you want it to be. There are so many ideal day trip locations across the country that you might want to pack up the car and head off to explore. You can make them as cultural and educational as you like, too! Whether it’s seeing notable sights or just taking in the beauty of a certain village, town, or city, it can be fun for everyone involved. You can even do themed days to add more excitement.

4. Try Out Fun New Hobbies

Another idea is to try out some new hobbies. If you’re constantly thinking of ways to keep the children entertained that don’t involve screens, new hobbies can be a great way to do that. If your kids haven’t done so already, the summer is a great time to learn to ride a bike or to take up swimming lessons. They can also sign up for sports camps if they’re interested too. Plus, if you’ve always wanted to try something niche like ariel or martial arts, now is a fun time to do it!

5. Get Creative

Summer is also a great time of year for you to all to be a bit more creative. And again, with creative tasks, you can avoid being indoors too much! Painting or doing crafts can all be done outside, which also helps when things are a bit messy too. Plus, there’s also the idea of baking with your children and enjoying the fruits of your labour after a long day, too! You can find tutorials or activity ideas on places like Pinterest or the BBC to inspire you too!

6. Have a Sleepover

Another really fun idea is to have a sleepover. This can work in a few ways. First, you can do a traditional sleepover with your children and their friends. But, it can also get a bit creative too! As a family, you can all look to do a sleepover together downstairs in the living room, complete with snacks and a movie night! Or, you could take it one step further and head out into the garden and sleep in a tent together too!

7. Learn Something New!

Finally, just because school is out doesn’t mean that you have to forget all about education. In fact, aiming to learn something new can make sure that they are still in the rhythm ahead of September. Maybe they want to take on a short course or do a summer school? If they are interested in certain subjects, such as world geography or history, you can all look to learn together!
