One way to rock the streets is wearing an impressive look, and while that’s subjective to the general body, the hair plays a colossal part. But sometimes, curating the natural hair to create a unique impression can be an uphill task, essentially if it seems pretty uncanny. Therefore, a patchable wig adorned with a preferable style seems quite a plan.

However, the big elephant in the room is the wig looking as natural as possible, which doesn’t come that easy. And so, it pays to be smart with it. Besides, another challenge is also to ensure that the wig stays in shape for lengthy service. Here are the wig hacks and tricks to be familiar with when it comes to wearing them.

  1. Sleep with the wig off

Numerous people may be opposed to taking their wigs off when retiring to bed, but having it off seems pretty reasonable. The idea of redoing the hacks in the morning when patching it back on appears inconceivable and strenuous, and rightly so. But given that it’s seemingly possible to misalign the hair strands due to tossing and turning in sleep, it’s all worth the hassle.

Synthetic wigs don’t fancy the weight and pressure since their strands often distort. Sometimes this damage can be irreversible and keeps the wig looking rough. Therefore, if it seems doable, taking the wig off before sleeping will work miracles. Or, if that seems hard to come by, it’d be best to wrap the wig in a scarf so it stays intact as the head moves about. In this case, a trending headband wig would be easy to style when it comes to a busy grooming situation.

  1. The baby hair hack

This trick makes the wig look as natural as possible, and people won’t even notice that it isn’t natural hair. Most wigs come with pre-made baby hair to work with. However, others don’t, but making some isn’t rocket science. For natural hair wigs, creating baby hair isn’t much of a challenge. Instead, separating the front strands just enough not to expose the laces usually do the trick.

For synthetic hair wigs, it can pose quite a challenge. However, it’s not entirely unachievable. The idea is to separate and draw a few strands forward but keep the wig laces concealed so people won’t notice. Once done, applying some baby oil on the forehead just closer to the hairline will keep the baby hair strands stuck on the skin, giving a more natural look.

  1. Combing the wig

Sometimes, combing the wig straightens the strands, maintaining its gloss. With continued use, the hairs usually entangle and loop, especially when rarely brushed through. It makes perfect sense since it also takes a comb to keep the natural hair growing from the scalp looking tidier.

However, the idea isn’t only combing the wig for the sake of it. Instead, following a pattern to prevent losing the hair strands would work better. Therefore, it’d be best to comb the wig starting from the bottom and gently work the way upwards until it’s all worked out. That way, the wig stands a chance not to lose any hair strands.

  1. Washing the wig more often

The wig gets dirty, too, and it’s always reasonable to wash it once and then. It usually traps dust particles from the air or gets smelly and clogged with dandruff. However, sewn wigs can pose a challenge in keeping them clean, but it’s a no-brainer cleaning detachable wigs. Nevertheless, it doesn’t have to be too frequent because water can be destructive to the strands, especially when they don’t dry so well.

To properly wash the wig, cold water is more of a go-to option than hot water. Or instead, warm water can act as a great substitute, but it shouldn’t be warmer than the room temperature. That’ll keep the strands healthier and, of course, cleaner and undistorted. This trick usually works well with synthetic hair strands as they’re typically affected by hot water.

Wigs aren’t natural hair growing from the head, and so fair to say, making them appear natural and well-kempt doesn’t come easy. However, there are a few hacks to use to keep them looking incredible, conditioned and give the illusion of being natural. Washing the wig and combing it more often and avoiding keeping it on when sleeping helps you work towards that. Besides, a killer trick to duping people into believing that the wig is authentic is the baby hair hack, which often seems to work pretty well.
