Last weekend, my six year old Olly and I visited our local shopping centre, intu Merry Hill for a very special birthday celebration. Marmalade the Mammoth, was celebrating his first year as the shopping centre’s mascot with special guest, Andy Day of children’s television CBeebies fame for an afternoon of stories and dino raps!
We headed down to the Lower Mall in intu Merry Hill to join ticket holders in the special Marmalade party zone. Lots of young families had secured their free tickets earlier in the week for the exclusive performances. It was great to see so many people turn out for the event and they were so excited to see Andy in real life. Andy Day, is a children’s television presenter and is most well known for his Andy’s Prehistoric Adventure’s show; a dinosaur themed television programme that sees Andy shrink and go back in history to the time when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
The atmosphere at the party zone was fantastic. Lots of children had their Marmalade flags and were also given Marmalade cupcakes to celebrate the occasion. Families who had signed up to the free intu Family Club were able to pick up a free book ‘Where’s Marmalade?’ which Andy would read throughout the afternoon. The crowd were entertained prior to Andy’s performance and it was brilliant.
Andy arrived with Marmalade and took to the stage. My six year old was in complete awe of him, after seeing him on the television for the last few years. He couldn’t believe he was so close to us! The afternoon was fantastic, Andy sang and danced around on stage encouraging the audience to take part. It was so lovely to see lots of children dancing and interacting with the show and the Mums and Dads who took part on the stage were brilliant too!
Olly had a fantastic time at intu Merry Hill and was really pleased to be able to meet Andy and get a quick photograph with him. It made his year!
intu Merry Hill is not only a fantastic place for families to shop but it’s a great place to meet friends, be sociable and enjoy a meal. Olly loves Eat Central as there’s always something he fancies on the menu for lunch and I don’t mind driving as it’s free parking and really easy to get to.
