Enjoying Afternoon Tea at The Belfry

Did you know it’s National Afternoon Tea week from 14th to 20th August? No, neither did I until Red Letter Days got in touch and asked me to go and enjoy Afternoon Tea at the popular Ryder Cup golf course, The Belfry in Warwickshire. I took along my Mom for her birthday and we had a lovely afternoon catching up, people watching and enjoying the most delicious sweet treats and cake. There’s the chance for you to win Champagne Afternoon Tea for two at various locations at the bottom of this post courtesy of Red Letter Days .

Afternoon Tea at The Belfry

On behalf of Red Letter Days, I was invited to review Champagne Afternoon Tea in the Brabazon Bar at The Belfry. I have driven past The Belfry lots of times but have never been in, I was really looking forward to having a look around and taking in the view of the golf course.

We received a voucher from Red Letter Days to book an Afternoon Tea at our leisure which was relatively simple to do. I used my voucher online on the RLD website and then was given the details to book our Afternoon Tea direct with The Belfry.

Afternoon Tea The Belfry

A choice of fresh leaf tea

We were seated in a relatively quiet corner of the busy bar despite the bar being really busy. It was a Wednesday afternoon and the bar was full of people enjoying a drink after a round of golf, friends enjoying Afternoon Tea and couples enjoying some time together over a drink.

We were greeted by friendly staff and asked to look over the menu of fresh leaf teas to enjoy; the choice included The Full English, The Earl, Mighty Assam, Elderflower and Blossom Darjeeling, Moroccan Mint and Rosewater, Redbush Caramel Velvet, Lapsang Souchong, Persian Pomegranate, Decaff Ceylon, Dragonwell Green and Organic Jasmine. I’m not very adventurous with my tea so asked for The Full English and as my Mom doesn’t drink tea at all she got to enjoy a speciality coffee instead.

Charlotte, our waitress, asked us if we had any dietary requirements and told us about the selection of sandwiches and cakes that she would bring over for us to enjoy. These included egg and cress on white bread, cheese, mayo and red onion on brown, cucumber and cream cheese on brown, ham and mustard on white, smoked salmon and horseradish on sliced baguette.

The most incredible Afternoon Tea cake selection

The cakes and pastries included a fruit mousse shortbread, chocolate choux, cider fruit cake, carrot cake, banana loaf, berry custard tartelette, plain and fruit scones as well as clotted cream, strawberry jam and butter.

When the cakes came out they looked divine. Such wonderful colours, shapes and sizes. It was hard not to dive straight in to the cake but we behaved ourselves and enjoyed some of the finger sandwiches first. They were fresh, light and just as you’d expect all served on a plate to the table. My favourite was egg and cress.

Once we’d enjoyed our sandwiches, it was time for cake. What a treat! The cake selection was brilliant. My favourite was the fruit mousse shortbread and the cider fruit cake. My Mom loved the chocolate choux and the berry custard tartelette.

We were offered more hot drinks throughout the afternoon and it was a lovely relaxing couple of hours taking in the view across the Brabazon Bar. I couldn’t manage all my sandwiches or cakes so asked if I could take them home and Charlotte agreed I could and fetched me a box to carry them home in. My Dad was the lucky recipient of leftover cake and sandwiches!

After we had eaten and finished our drinks we went outside and enjoyed views across the golf course. The weather was beautiful so it was nice to sit outside and just relax in the sunshine.

It’s only as we got home we realised we should have received a glass of Champagne as part of our voucher but I couldn’t have enjoyed it as I was driving anyway but I was a little disappointed that none of the staff mentioned it whilst we were there. Still, we had a lovely afternoon at The Belfry and I enjoyed spending some time with my Mom without any children interrupting us. It was such a treat that I’m hoping we can go again for a special family birthday in the near future.
