Co-sleeping with the Knuma Huddle Bedside Crib // Review

Knuma Huddle

During my pregnancy with Freddie, I knew that I wanted to co-sleep with him next to our bed. It would make a world of difference in those early days with him being so close, being able to see and hear him at a glance and not forgetting being able to feed him without getting out of bed. As I was having a planned c-section, I knew a bedside crib would be ideal so when Knuma got in touch asking if we’d like to try out the Huddle Bedside Crib with Freddie, I was delighted and couldn’t wait to use it

Knuma Huddle

The Knuma Huddle Bedside Crib is a really stylish multi-functional piece of wooden furniture. Not only can it be used as a co-sleeping crib, it can be used as a stand alone crib and you can remove the bassinet from the frame and use it around the home. Once baby is older, it can be converted into a children’s first desk and bench so it’s a really versatile product which can be enjoyed for years.

We were sent the Huddle in grey, but it’s also available in rustic beech and white colourways. The two longer sides of the Huddle have mesh see-through panels with one of the sides having two zips which enable the side to come down. I love that I’m able to bring the side down of an evening when I’m in bed next to Freddie but then easily zip it back up when Freddie is in the crib in our room on his own.

Adjustable height settings

The Huddle has 10 height settings so it can be used with a wide range of beds and can be used with a bed with a maximum mattress height of 70cm from the floor. Our bed is quite high due to our deep mattress and we’ve been able to set the Huddle flush to the side of our mattress and use the included straps to secure the Huddle to the side of the bed.

Aside from loving the fact that I can co-sleep with Freddie safely in his own little space at night, I love that the Huddle has a built in shelf on the bottom of the crib. This is perfect for keeping muslins, nappies and wipes in for ease of access during those night feeds and nappy changes. Additionally, you can turn the frame around and have it so it rocks. I wanted a static co-sleeping crib so didn’t set it up to rock.

Knuma recommend that the Huddle is only used with their own Huddle Mattress and it is so soft. It’s an eco-friendly mattress made from bamboo fibres designed with ventilation panels making it a really comfortable mattress for little ones to sleep on. The cover is also removable and machine washable which is excellent as Freddie has already been suffering from reflux (hence the muslins on top of the mattress).

Would we recommend the Huddle?

We’ve been using the Huddle since we got home from hospital and I have loved waking up next to Freddie being so close. Having had a c-section, I’ve found having Freddie next to me has really helped my recovery. Freddie has slept really well in it so far and we’re so pleased that we’re able to co-sleep safely with him. He’s in a safe environment, we can see him, he can see us and it’s a brilliant size to the side of our bed. We’ll be able to use the crib until Freddie is able to roll or sit up so I’m expecting to use it until he’s about six months old. I would have loved something like this when mine were little – we had a crib right at the end of my bed, there wouldn’t have been space for it to go next to me unfortunately.

I so wish these had been around when my two were babies, they would have made things so much easier, especially for feeding my youngest, as he ended up in my bed constantly anyway since he was always hungry. I miss the snuggly newborn days, it must be lovely to be able to fall asleep looking at his little squidgy face!
