Family Fayre at Brewers Fayre, The Lakeside | a review

As we approach February half term, plans for the school holidays often revolve around keeping the kids entertained and out of mischief. Although Olly isn’t at school or nursery yet, we still like to plan ahead and make plans for the weekend and that will often result in us driving somewhere for a day out and then having some food out. Brewers Fayre are offering some fantastic fun over February Half Term so there’s fun for the whole family.

Family Fun at Brewers Fayre

Did you know, many Brewers Fayre sites have soft play areas which have recently been refurbished with a Beano theme so the kids can burn off all that energy before their dinner. Continuing the Beano theme, children will be given special half term Beano arts and crafts activity sheets and there’s a Beano balloon to take home too!

If you’re looking for something to do on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th February, selected Brewers Fayre will be hosting discos for some real party fun. The Toddlers disco runs from 9:30am – 3pm and the older children’s disco is on from 3:30-7:30pm. It’s just £3 per child.

Visiting The Lakeside, Oldbury

Brewers Fayre

We recently visited one of our local Brewers Fayre restaurants to check out the menu and the family friendly ambience. The Lakeside, in Oldbury, West Midlands isn’t a restaurant we’ve visited before so on Friday evening to celebrate payday (any excuse!) we went over for some food and an evening out.

Something for everyone

One of the things I most like about the menu at Brewers Fayre is the variety. There’s lots to choose from and there’s never nothing you don’t fancy. Olly loves the children’s menu as it has meals designed for kids just like him. He loves the selection of starters, the main courses always baffle him as to what to pick and the pudding selection is great in that there’s not a massive choice but enough for small ones to pick something that they will enjoy.

We all decided to pick something different on the menus but it’s good to know that their Daytime Value offer which runs from 12-6pm Monday to Friday means you can enjoy a three course dinner for less than £16 (two starters for £2.50, two mains for just £10.99 and two desserts for £2.50) such brilliant value for money!

The ambience at The Lakeside was relaxed and friendly with welcoming staff on hand to assist you throughout your meal. We were served quickly and didn’t have to wait long at all for our food which is always great when you’ve got a hungry toddler who doesn’t grasp the concept of patience.

We each chose a starter; I had Prawn Cocktail, hubby had Loaded Nachos and Olly opted for Garlic Bread. We all really enjoyed our starters and hubby was pleased with the portion sizes which were generous.

For our main course, hubby opted to try out the Chef’s Counter as there’s a different feast on every night between 5-8pm. On Friday, it was the Chip Shop Chef’s Counter and as we don’t have a chip shop tea anymore with being good on Slimming World, hubby couldn’t wait to fill his plate with chip shop favourites. The Chef’s Counter is an unlimited buffet, all you can eat style so you can go up as many times as you like depending on how hungry you are. The concept is great however, hubby was a little disappointed at the freshness of some of the food. The bread was quite hard and some of the fried goods appeared to have been there some time.

Both Olly and I really enjoyed our main courses. The chicken and bacon salad was really tasty and Olly loved his sausage, mash and peas.

For dessert, hubby and I weren’t that hungry but not full enough to say no to a pudding so opted for a sharing fondue platter whilst Olly wanted donuts and chocolate sauce. The sharing platter was brilliant as we were able to take our time and pick what we fancied. In reality, Olly picked all the marshmallows, brownies and donuts off the plate leaving us with strawberries and some waffle. I’d highly recommend the sharing fondue platter if you’re feeling indulgent as you can just pick and choose whatever you fancy from the plate and dip it into the caramel or chocolate sauce.

Overall we had an enjoyable meal at The Lakeside, Brewers Fayre. We would happily return and try out something different on the menu although I think Olly would opt for the donuts every time!

If you’re looking for somewhere to eat over half term, why not give Brewers Fayre a try, the kids will thank you for it.

Thanks to The Lakeside for their hospitality and to Brewers Fayre for inviting us to check out the restaurant. We received a voucher towards the cost of our meal but all words, images and opinions are our own.

We're going on an adventure
