Review: Prezzo at New Square, West Bromwich

On Sunday evening, hubby and I were invited along to a new restaurant Prezzo at New Square, West Bromwich. We were really looking forward to it as we had been to a Prezzo restaurant in London with family before and really enjoyed it, it was our 6th wedding anniversary and it was the first time we had left Little Mr at home in bed with his Auntie supervising, whilst we went out for the evening on our own.

The restaurant has only been open for 3 weeks so it looked new and inviting from the outside. The restaurant is on the corner of the complex with large glass windows allowing you to look inside. The restaurant has two floors one being a mezzanine and with access to the unisex toilets. There is also a small seating area outside ideal for dining al fresco on warmer days. First impressions, it looked very modern and clean and should really help improve the local area.

Customer Service

Upon arrival to the restaurant we were warmly welcomed into dining area and asked if we had a preference where to sit. The waitresses, whose name we didn’t get as the staff were not wearing name badges, were attentive and friendly. We were given time to make our menu choices and our food arrived without much delay. Throughout our meal we were asked if we were enjoying our food and if there were any problems. Napkins and cutlery were replaced without fuss before the next dish was served and we really did feel like we were being looked after.

The menu at Prezzo is Italian inspired with pasta and pizza featuring well on the menu. There was a lot of choice; traditional starters, a huge selection of main courses and a nice collection of desserts.

We ordered the Antipasto Platter to share for starters. A wooden board decorated with prosciutto ham, salami milano, spicy ventricina salami, buffalo mozzarella, marinated olives, baby sunblushed tomatoes, fresh rocket and ciabatta bread. We both even tried the olives and actually quite liked them.

For main course, hubby ordered the Roasted Duck Leg served with broccoli, asparagus, red onion, green beans, baby potatoes, red chilli and tomato. He tells me it was a beautifully cooked dish with a duck leg full of meat and the portion size was spot on.

I really couldn’t decide what to have for my main course so I took advantage of the small plates menu where you can try the main courses but in smaller portions. Prezzo recommend two to three plates per person so I chose three; Macaroni Florentine (classic macaroni cheese with spinach), two mini calzones (with tomato sauce and our blend of cheese – One with pepperoni, the other with mushrooms) and Classic risotto (with pancetta bacon and cream, baked with grana padano cheese). All three dishes were really tasty, wonderfully hot and the cheese was deliciously melted on the top so it was all gooey and stringy. My favourite dish was the classic risotto which surprised me as I don’t usually like too much rice. This dish was melt in the mouth and absolutely moreish.

For dessert, hubby enjoyed the Milk Chocolate Fudge Cake (milk chocolate fudge finished with crushed chocolate brownie and served with vanilla ice cream) and I ordered the Honeycomb Smash Cheesecake (blended and topped with crunchy honeycomb pieces coated in chocolate). When I saw hubby’s fudge cake I was jealous, it was a huge piece of cake and the fudge frosting looked so tasty. I did steal a small spoonful. The cheesecake was nice but didn’t particularly taste of honeycomb in my opinion. It could have been a vanilla cheesecake and I wouldn’t have known any different. We completed the meal with a caramel latte coffee and a pot of tea.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Prezzo and would highly recommend it to family and friends in the area. I sincerely hope that trade picks up and next time we pop in for a meal that it is bustling with customers and the whole restaurant is used to its full capacity.

We noted as we were leaving that there were highchairs available for use and that there was a children’s and tiny tots menu available. Having looked at the menu on their website, we’ll definitely consider taking Little Mr with us on our next visit.

I’d like to thank the Management and Staff for their hospitality and I’m pleased to say that they didn’t realise we were reviewing the meal until the end so we received the same quality service as we would of done had we have been a regular customer.
