Countdown to Christmas…

has begun… It started at work last Monday as it was the start of the final term of 2011 which means only 7 whole weeks until we break up for Christmas, how exciting? I get 2 whole weeks off at Christmas and I can’t wait to spend the time relaxing with my hubby, woofer and family.

Today I had the pleasure of attending the Crafts for Christmas show at the NEC, Birmingham. I won 2 tickets back in October (courtesy of The PR Mummy) for the show so got my walking shoes on, cash in my purse and my elbows at the ready. I went to the show with my Mom who is an avid crafter. She loves making handmade cards as well sewing, quilting, cross stitching, making handmade jam and baking so this show was right up her street. We got to the NEC at 10am and it was already very busy. The Crafts for Christmas show is linked in the Hobbycrafts and Art Materials-Live show so it was very popular with lots to look at and so many stands offering bargains galore we got stuck in. Mom was very prepared and had written a list of all the things she was after whilst I took the ‘I’ll see what I find’ approach.

My first purchase of the day was a set of ProMarkers, 10 for £9.99..bargain! I then bought a pack of glitter pens and metallic markers, perfect for my Christmas gift tag/decoration idea (more on this to follow) Mom bought lots of different goodies; coloured paper, ProMarkers, various magazines and back issues, Lili of the Valley papercuts, a metal die for her cuttlebug and a gorgeous christmas pressie for my nephew!

The highlight of my day was meeting the very lovely Emma (of Docrafts Creativity Club fame). It was lovely to meet someone who i’ve tweeted with in real life. She was very warm and friendly and I don’t know if I’d have been brave enough to walk up to her 11 months ago but given that my confidence is soaring at the moment I did it with Mom in tow.

The highlights of Mom’s day were 1) winning a fiver on the Crafty Bobs tombola (I won a free magazine which Mom was also chuffed with) and 2) she got to speak to and watch Joanna Sheen in action. For those not in the know, Joanna is a legend in the card craft world. Mom has many of her award winning books and craft goodies so it was nice to see the lady herself in action offering advice and tips to her fans!

We spent the rest of the afternoon mooching around the hundreds of stands. The show was very much geared towards card crafters and embroiderers of the crafty world. It would have been nice to have seen more sewing related stands (Christmas fabrics and ribbons) and perhaps more stuff for those who want to bake or cook up their own Christmas gifts.

All in all we had a fab day out, spent quite a bit of cash and walked quite a lot (about 6 mile). Best get on with putting my ideas for Christmas into reality, it’s only 7 weeks away…eeek! {sig}
