It’s easy to become overwhelmed when picking out the perfect diamond engagement ring since there are so many ring designs and jewellers to choose from. It’s going to be one of the biggest purchases you will ever make. This is why it’s important to make sure you do it right the first time to avoid a size or shape mishap.

There are so many things to be considered, especially since this is going to cost you a pretty penny. However, you will also want your partner to love the diamond as much as you love her. If you are beginning to feel stressed about beginning your search for the perfect representation of your commitment and love for her, don’t worry.

Handmade Diamond Rings

If you know exactly what you want in a diamond for an engagement ring and have no reason to browse a ton of options, then you could always opt to design a ring through a private jeweller. You may find that the pricing options are better to you with your engagement ring financing plans. You may also experience better treatment from the initial consultation to a full breakdown of the 4Cs. They will help you determine the price point paired with picking a loose stone and choosing the setting. You can choose a handmade or pre-designed setting if you want. Not only that, but you should also consider the shape of the diamond which should be your girlfriend’s preference. The process of designing a ring will be a lengthy one, taking anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

If you don’t want to go down that road and need help, here are some helpful tips.

What are the 4 C’s?

The 4 C’s consist of cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight. These are what you will want to consider when selecting the perfect diamond for your partner. The 4 C’s are what determine the quality and cost of the diamond you choose.

Cut

The cut doesn’t necessarily stand for the shape of the diamond. It actually stands for the angles and proportions of the diamond. Nature will make the determination about the other three C’s, but the cut is determined by whoever cuts the diamond. A well-cut diamond has a sparkle to it. The reflecting light from one facet to another is what makes the diamond sparkle when it shines through the top of the stone. Diamonds that are poorly cut or too shallow will allow light to leak through the bottom or the side of it. It will result in a lack of luster.

Carats

Carats are what’s used to measure the size or weight of the diamond. The average weight of a diamond in a ring is around 1-carat. This is about 200 milligrams, roughly the size of an Advil tab. You may have seen in tabloids that Kim K’s emerald-cut ring that was stolen weighed a whopping 20-carats and cost $4.5 million. You don’t have to spend that much. If you wanted to, you probably wouldn’t be reading this article. But since you are, you’re most likely looking for a cheap diamond engagement ring that will be cherished forever.

Colour

Diamonds come in a variety of colours if you didn’t already know. Diamonds are graded based on a scale from D, which is colorless, to Z, which is a light yellow. Colourless diamonds are the rarest and the most expensive. White is the most popular, but when it comes down to it, it’s all about preference. Think about anything your partner may have said about diamond colour.

Clarity

Inclusions are what jewelers call imperfections. Even the most perfect looking diamond can have its flaws. There may be small black or white specks or lines that are naturally in the diamond as it forms. These microscopic imperfections are what determines clarity. This is rated on a scale from flawless to included. You will pay more for a ring that has less and smaller inclusions.
