Being landlocked in the West Midlands, we really love a day out to the coast. It doesn’t happen very often so when it does, we like to take full advantage of it and enjoy long family fun-filled days out at the beach. This week we’ve escaped to north Norfolk to enjoy a week by the seaside. It’s a place we love and have visited many times before so we wanted to bring Freddie here for his first British seaside holiday.
Our favourite beach is called Horsey Gap and it’s a short drive away from where we’ve been staying in Mundesley. It’s where we first took our fur baby Mikey, we’ve taken Olly as a baby in previous years and this year we wanted to show Freddie the sand dunes, the beautiful sandy beach and maybe even a wild seal or three too.
We knew we’d be there for a few hours at least so we packed the car with all the essentials; bucket and spade, a ball, raincoats, hoodies, a picnic blanket, a picnic full of the usual snacks plus a couple of bottles of Yazoo No Added Sugar chocolate milk. Olly’s a huge fan of the flavoured milk and doesn’t really drink any other form of milk so it’s something we’re keen for him to drink. The No Added Sugar range (which includes chocolate, strawberry and banana flavours) only contains the sugar which is found naturally in milk which means there’s no added sugar or any other added sweetener which is great news. Plus, they contain Vitamin B2, protein and calcium so what Olly doesn’t know is that they’re full of essential goodness!
Typically, the Great British weather hasn’t been ideal whilst we’ve been away on holiday but we haven’t let it dampen our spirits. A day at the beach is great in any weather (although I do wish it had been under blue skies and blaring sunshine) but with a forecast full of fog, wind and rainy showers we wrapped up warm and spent a few hours on the beach.
After dragging the pushchair up and down the sandy track, we left Freddie to sleep as Olly and I went exploring. We spotted three wild seals swimming amongst the waves and it’s such a wonderful sight to see. I wasn’t sure if we would see them but we did. Olly went on a hunt for shells and seaweed and Shilts and I enjoyed a hot cup of tea from the flask (we realise, all of a sudden we’ve got so old, weep!)
Olly came back to us with a bucket full of pebbles (and other assorted beach debris) but unfortunately not many seashells. After a short sit down, a ham sandwich, a cocktail sausage or three and a slurp of his Yazoo No Added Sugar chocolate milk, he went back on the beach to recommence his search.
We had such a lovely day at the beach. We came home with shoes full of sand, windswept hair, a couple of broken seashells and empty bottles of Yazoo No Added Sugar which all in sums up a great family day out!
