Chicco Baby Hug 4-in-1

I love baby products that are multi-functional. There are many products that are designed with one purpose in mind and when baby has grown out of them, it’s time to pass them on, often leaving you feeling you didn’t get value for money. Chicco have recently launched an innovative product with four different uses; the Baby Hug 4-in-1 is a first crib, a recliner, a high-chair and a first table chair.

We were sent the Baby Hug 4-in-1 to review over the last month and it has been so useful. Not only is the Baby Hug multi-functional with its four different configurations but it’s height adjustable too. The large pedal allows me to easily raise or lower the crib and by doing so, the crib glides to the height required. I can easily change the height of the crib without waking our baby boy Freddie (our 11 week old baby boy) which is brilliant! The Baby Hug is also portable too thanks to the four lockable swivel wheels.

Suitable from birth in crib mode

During the day, we’ve been using the Chicco Baby Hug as a crib downstairs in our lounge. Our baby boy  has been sleeping in it and its a really safe environment for me to leave him to get some chores done as well as being cosy and comfortable enough to enable him to rest and sleep. The sides are deep and the top of the crib is padded for safety. The highchair straps should be removed when using the Baby Hug in crib and recliner mode.

Brilliant recliner ideal for post feeds

Once Freddie has woken up after a sleep and I’ve fed him, he often brings up quite a bit of milk up. We’ve been advised not to lay him flat straight after his bottle so using the Baby Hug in recline mode has been really helpful. It’s also a brilliant way for Freddie to see us when we’re eating dinner in the dining room. We just wheel the Baby Hug from the lounge into the dining room and using the handle at the top of the crib we can tilt the crib into recliner mode.

Removable toy bar is entertaining

The Baby Hug also has a removable electronic toy bar that features lights, soothing and entertaining  songs and three hanging toys to attract baby’s attention. You can choose to listen to the music independently of the lights or vice versa. The toy bar has three different positions too so you can move the toy bar according to the needs of your baby.

The toy bar is photographed upside down but Freddie prefers to see the lights

Freddie isn’t so keen on the music at the moment but enjoys watching the lights change colour and is particularly fond of the hanging animal toy which we’ve placed in the middle of the toy bar. The other hanging toys feature a rattle with crinkly fabric and a soft baby safe teether which can be detached so baby can play with them when they’re a bit older.

From six months, the Baby Hug can be used in highchair mode (I’ve taken a photograph with Freddie in it to show how it can be used but please be rest assured, he is too little at the moment for this mode). The Baby Hug in highchair mode will be fantastic for us. We’ll be able to wheel the crib to the table and then sit Freddie in it at the table with us.

As its height adjustable we’re able to move the highchair to the required height. When Freddie is a bit older, he’ll be able to sit in the Baby Hug in first chair mode and it’ll be a comfortable space for him to sit.

It is without a doubt, a fantastic multi-functional product which will take baby from birth right through until around 36 months. One of my concerns however is the ability to keep the product clean when its used in highchair mode. From previous experience, weaning babies are messy and aren’t afraid of getting their hands, faces or bodies mucky as well as their surroundings. The aqua coloured lining can be removed to wash but I would be concerned about staining.

We are loving the Chicco Baby Hug 4-in-1 as it’s just so practical around the house. Freddie seems to settle in it really well and loves the entertainment on the toy bar. We’re looking forward to using the other modes when Freddie is old enough so he can join us around the table for dinner.

The Chicco Baby Hug 4-in-1 retails at £200 and is fantastic value for money. We’ll be using the Baby Hug for the foreseeable.

Thanks for the review. In the crib mode, how big of a baby do you think this can function? My main concern is that my baby will outgrow this (as a crib) fairly quickly…like 6 months…

To be honest, I would say from my experience they would grow out of it by 6 months as they’ll start to roll and lift themselves up

Hi there, we’ve bought one of these for our main next to the bed crib and are planning on using it from birth as I’m due in a few weeks. In your opinion do you think the baby would be safe and comfortable swaddled in there?

      Hello Jenny,
Congratulations! I think baby would be very safe and comfortable however the mattress isn’t very thick at all and probably isn’t suitable for more than 3 hours sleep (in my opinion)
      Hope all goes well x

Hello Rose, if this is going to be your main crib for baby I would recommend getting a thicker mattress as it’s not thick at all really. It’s ok for older babies but for newborns I would look into it yes! Good luck with the birth of your daughter

Hi Emma. I bought a Chicco mattress for nighttime sleeping. The instructions said, to remove original mattress and straps, which I did, but now I wish to use the recliner mode, but I can’t seem to reattach the top straps of the harness, there doesn’t seem to any holes for them to fit into. Any help you could give me with this would be greatly appreciated
