As many of you who follow my ramblings here will know, I’ve been following the Slimming World way for just over two years now. I’ve had success in that time and I’ve lost a total of just over five stone. So imagine my delight when I got an email from their PR team inviting me to the Sparkly Castle (Slimming World Head Office) for a bloggers festive lunch. Not only would I see where the magic happens but they’d also be providing a low syn lunch based on the recipes from their newest recipe book ‘Festive Feasts’.
Before the event, I hadn’t heard any snippets of gossip from anyone else who had been invited so I had absolutely no idea what to expect. The night before the event, I did a quick Instagram search and found a few of my favourite Slimming World instagrammers had been invited and the nerves kicked in. Slimming World had invited the most inspirational ladies and gents to the event and me. I know I’ve lost quite a bit but I don’t see myself as inspirational. I haven’t lost 10 stone in a year or got 78,000 Instagram followers so felt completely inadequate to attend.
Of course, I put my worries aside and decided to embrace the fact I had been invited and drove up to Derbyshire with an anxious excitement. As soon as I walked into where all the other bloggers were, I instantly recognised their faces but having such a rubbish memory, I couldn’t place their faces with names. Luckily, the Slimming World PR ladies had noted down everyone’s Instagram handles so made it so much easier recognising everyone.
Once everyone had arrived, we were given a tour of the Sparkly Castle which has it’s own hair and beauty salon, gym and restaurant serving low syn and synfree meals (I need to get a job at Slimming World!) I got talking to the lovely Pippa from The Slimming Foodie who was so lovely to talk.
We even got a sneaky tour of the stock warehouse and Stock Manager Andy very kindly gave us a box of the new Dark Choc Mint hifi light bars (which are absolutely delicious by the way!)
The main event, aside from the fantastic tour, was the bloggers festive lunch. The restaurant chefs had created a delicious meal for us taken from the recipes from the Festive Feasts recipe book and what a treat it was. We were joined at the table by key SW staff including Olly who is Editor of the recipe books and Elise, Editor-in-Chief.
Wow – what a day! We held our first-ever Slimming World blogger event and welcomed 16 bloggers and/or people who love to post about Slimming World on their social media channels – and inspire us and so many of our members. We treated them to an early Christmas dinner…Slimming World-style, with all the dishes taken from our Festive Feasts book. You’ll find lots of pics of the day on hashtags #swfestivefeasts and #slim4xmas and here’s one of everyone at the fabulously festive table. #slimmingworlduk #slimmingworld #Christmas #swfamily #swfriends
The lunch was bought out and it looked amazing. I enjoyed Coronation Prawn and Mango Cocktail, Maple Glazed Chicken Breasts with cheesy ham and leek stuffing served with crunchy roasties with celery salt, speedy red cabbage with cranberries, carrots and brussels sprouts. Dessert was Pavlova Wreath, Winter Raspberry and Chocolate Log and Macaroon-topped mince pies.
The lunch was simply delicious. The Pavlova Wreath looked incredible and there is no way I’d be able to do it justice if I made it at home but I’d love to have a go. I’m definitely going to give the chicken breast a try at home, I think everyone would love that for their Sunday dinner. All the recipes can be found in the new recipe book Festive Feasts available to buy in groups now for just £4.95.
During lunch we were able to chat to everybody, I sat by Nikki of Fopperholic fame who is just the most stunning lady. She’s absolutely gorgeous with an infectious laugh and is hugely inspiring. I also sat by Emily who has lost an amazing 10 stone, she looks fantastic. I also sat next to Chloe who was wonderful to talk all things Slimming World with.
I had an amazing afternoon at Slimming World HQ. The meal was incredible and the company was fantastic. I came away feeling inspired, proud and happy. I might not be any where near target and have a very long way to go but I feel determined that I can do this. I can and I will lose this weight!
You can find all the other lovely inspirational ladies and gents who attended the event over on Instagram, here are their Insta handles, go and check them out (between us all we have lost over 104 stone…WOW!);
Huge thanks to the lovely PR ladies at Slimming World for inviting me and making me feel so welcome amongst such inspirational ladies and gents. I had such a fantastic time, thank you so much!
Disclosure: I wasn’t asked to blog about the event but I couldn’t not given how far I’ve come since August 2014. It was such a wonderful afternoon and I’m more inspired than ever to continue my Slimming World journey!
