What’s in Little Mr’s First Christmas Stocking

shilton family christmas traditions

Legend says that Christmas stockings were hung up by the fireplace in the hope that Saint Nicolas would come past and fill them with gold making the recipients dreams come true. Nowadays, the gold is represented by a satsuma which somehow doesn’t quite cut it.

This year there will be 3 Christmas stockings hanging up above the fireplace; one for Mummy, one for Daddy and one for Little Mr. I love Christmas stockings, they always got me excited as a child and my Mom and Dad used to fill our stockings with lots of lovely treats to look at, eat and wear. I had a red and white felt stocking that my Mom had made with the letter E on it. We still have it to this day although it is a bit worse for wear now.

There was one rule on Christmas Day that we were allowed to go downstairs and look through our Christmas stockings hanging by the fireplace but we weren’t allowed to open any presents from under the tree without my Parents being there, nor was we allowed to wake them up before 8am. My Sister and I would love to go downstairs and sit in the lounge eyeing up all the gifts under the tree and then looking through our stockings. We usually got a satsuma, some nuts, a pair of Christmas novelty socks, a bag of chocolate coins and something girly like hair bobbles or nail varnishes.

This year, as Little Mr will be celebrating his first Christmas I’m not going to put too much into the stocking as he won’t really understand/realise/know it’s for him. We’ll start the tradition of filling a stocking for him each year and hopefully in a couple of years it will be something he will really look forward to before unleashing him on the pressies under the tree.

Here’s what is going into Little Mr’s First Christmas Stocking;

LM Christmas Stocking

A couple of pairs of My 1st Christmas socks | Santa and Reindeer socks | Squirty Bath Toys |  Cuddly Reindeer Soft Toy | Mr Men Christmas Tree Book | Spot’s First Christmas Book |
Santa pram toy | Christmas SNAP cards

There’s a definite Christmas theme to his stocking and I’d like to keep the contents pretty similar over the next few years (i.e a book, some socks, a toy etc) as this is what my parents did for me and I loved it so I’m hoping Little Mr will too.

Does your little one have a stocking? What do you put in them? I’d love to know.
