The ability to travel is such a blessing. Travel expands your horizons and gives you a unique perspective even if you just go visit a neighbouring country. It doesn’t matter where you go, immersing yourself in somewhere new helps remind us all why we do what we do. Plus, it helps us do it with a broader way of thinking about the world. But for so many of us, whether it’s our first or 15th time travelling abroad, getting ready to go can make our stomachs turn with nervousness. After all, there is so much to think about before you head out of your borders.
To help make your journey less stressful and more fun, we’ve compiled a list of four major things you should think about when you head abroad.
Do You Have All Your Visas?
When you plan your perfect vacation, it can be easy to get swept up in the magic of the destination and not think about all the work that comes before paradise. So, before you board the plane, check that you can disembark at the other side without blinking an eye.
You’d be surprised how easy it is not to think to check if you need a pre-approved tourist visa when you head somewhere. So many of us are lucky to come from countries with limited travel restrictions, and so not being able to immediately breeze through border control can seem, for a lack of a better word, foreign to us.
So always do your homework and make sure you have any appropriate visas sorted before you head on vacation. You don’t want to be unpleasantly surprised before your journey truly even starts.
Have You Thought About What to Do if You Are Involved in an Accident?
What happens if you have an accident when you enter a foreign country? Well, it’s going to depend on the situation, but you’ll be able to handle it, especially if you come in prepared. It’s always good to know some of the local professionals in case you have a problem. Wherever you land, just ask about the nearest clinic or hospital and you can even check for a lawyer’s office. Make sure to double check you have the correct emergency numbers for the country too.
You won’t have to worry if anything goes wrong that you don’t know where to head. For instance, I know that Dennis Hernandez is a reputable attorney for the Florida region. If we ever make the trip to Disney, it’s nice to know where I can find trusted professionals ready to handle any accidents we might have.
Double Check Your Travel Reservations
Another to thing to do before you head out is to double check your travel arrangements. Have there been any adjustments to your plane or train schedule? Is there anything you want to adjust about how you get from Point A to Point B? Or, are there any planned strikes that could affect your travel plans?
Once you know the answers to these questions, you’ll have peace of mind on the day you travel. A few minutes double checking and researching these questions can bring you tons of relief on the day you go abroad.
Bring the Camera (and all the cords)
Lastly, bring your camera and the charging cords and get ready to enjoy! Document all you can. You will want to remember each adventure you have. It is truly incredible that we can see the world, let’s make sure we have all the technology to take snapshots of that fact! Enjoy each moment because congrats, you made it!
