Baby’s First Christmas – Kimberley and Teddy

Continuing my nosey at Baby’s First Christmas plans, traditions and practices, is an interview with  blogger Kimberley who’s son Teddy will be celebrating his first Christmas this year.

An Interview with - Baby's First ChristmasHello Kimberley, can you tell me a bit about yourself and your family?

I’m Kimberley, mama to Teddy who will be one on Boxing Day, and wife to Tom. We live in Sheffield and when I’m not on maternity leave I’m an Early Years Teacher.

What are your plans for the lead up to Christmas?

The build up to Christmas is my favourite time of year, I just love all of the traditions and excitement. I can’t wait to decorate the house, we have a real tree so going to choose it is lots of fun too. I’m taking Teddy to a Christmas party with a friend with a baby the same age and I’m hoping there will be lots of other opportunities for him to wear his festive outfits too!

Will you be starting any new traditions or keeping up with any old ones?

I’m excited to start our own traditions as a little family of 3, but I’m not sure what they’ll be just yet! We’ll definitely go and choose a tree together as a start to the celebrations.

How will you all be spending Christmas Day?

That’s the big question! Tom and I have never yet spent a Christmas together, despite being together for 10 years and married for 2. Our families live so far apart from each other that its not easy to see both, so we have previously just spent it apart. We obviously both want to spend Christmas with Teddy from now on, so we just have to decide where to go. We each want to celebrate with our own families and its made even trickier with Teddy’s birthday being on Boxing Day too. Wherever we celebrate his first Christmas, we’ll also celebrate his first birthday too! My whole extended family get together on Boxing Day, and last year was the first time I missed it (due to being in labour) so Christmas celebrations will look very different from how they’ve been in the past. We’ll be sure to spend some time with both families over the festive period through, regardless of the finer details.

What will Teddy be wearing on Christmas Day?

I found the cutest little checked reindeer shirt in Primark the other day and just couldn’t resist it and I’ll be looking out for some Christmas pyjamas for him too.

What gifts will you be buying for Teddy for his first Christmas, if any?

We’re planning to follow the ‘Something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read’ tradition for Christmas as I’m sure Teddy will get lots of things from family too, and his first birthday is the very next day. We were going to get him the Ikea toddle truck but when he surprised us by taking his first steps much earlier than expected, we decided to buy it for him early so he could get lots of use out of it. I like the idea of the Grimms Rainbow for something he wants, then maybe a toy clip for the pram for something he needs.

Will you be making any Christmas crafts with Teddy this year?

Christmas cards are definitely on our to-do list! Maybe some decorations and baking too, although I don’t know how involved Teddy will be.

What are you most looking forward to this Christmas and how are you going to make it special?

Seeing Teddy enjoying the magic. He’ll be too young to understand a lot of it, but he’ll know that something different and exciting is happening for sure. Spending lots of time together will make it special and I can’t wait to start our own family traditions.

Will Teddy be visiting Father Christmas this year? And do you still believe?

I still believe! Father Christmas will be at the baby party we’re attending so he’ll see him then. I don’t think we’ll book another experience while he’s still so small though.

Wishing you all a very happy First Christmas with Teddy..x
