At the weekend my sister and I were invited by Buyagift to have a day off parenting and enjoy a day at Fairlawns Spa in Aldridge, Staffordshire. It’s a spa we’re both familiar with having been before but since our last visit, the Spa has had some extra facilities built so we were looking forward to seeing what had changed and enjoying a day to ourselves.
On arrival we were warmly greeted and asked to fill in some forms to check us in. We were given a timetable of treatments since the voucher Buyagift had gifted me, entitled both me and my sister a couture treatment of our choice along with an aqua massage. My sister suffers from a skin condition so was given some information on what oils were best for her skin. We pre-ordered a couple of soft drinks to go with our lunch and then we were invited back downstairs to the day spa changing room to change and begin our day.
In our lockers in the changing room was a towel for us to use throughout the day, a black robe to wear and a tote bag. You have to return the robe and towel at the end of the day but the tote bag is yours to keep. Since we last visited, the spa has decided to stop giving guests footwear to wear in the spa and encourage you to bring your own. I think this is a brilliant idea to stop the disposable culture and waste and it also encourages guests to bring their own from home.
What food is on offer
As part of our spa day package we were entitled to enjoy a light breakfast from the grazing bar, as many hot drinks as we wanted as well as lunch and afternoon tea. The breakfast included a selection of pastries, yoghurt and fresh fruit as well as home-made granola and cereal. The lunch included warm new potatoes, a pesto pasta salad, coleslaw, salad, cous cous, cold meats and bread rolls. In the afternoon, a selection of sweet treats were on offer in the spa lounge, including homemade scones, homemade brownies and chocolate tiffin pieces. There was also plenty of fresh fruit, jam and cream.
The facilities at Fairlawns Spa
The spa facilities at Fairlawns Spa are more than enough for a day of pampering. We first enjoyed a swim in the 18 metre swimming pool, although it was a little on the cool side for me. There’s an area to sit and relax to the side of the pool and we didn’t find it overly busy in the morning.
The Hydrotherapy Suite has a number of facilities inside to warm up and cool down the body. There’s the crystal steam room, floral steam room, tepidarium and ice fountain, foot baths, feature showers and heated loungers for you to enjoy. We particularly enjoyed the crystal steam room which was beautifully hot and the tepidarium with its heated seats and colour changing bubble wall. It’s very relaxing sitting down watching the colours change as the soft spa music plays and the seats warm you up.
Outside there’s the Sauna Suite which is home to the new double hot tubs in the garden, Finnish Sauna, Infrared Sauna and the new Salt Room. We braved the hot tubs in the garden for around 15 minutes but we got cold noses and shoulders so we dived back inside to warm up.
The Salt Room was a particular favourite of ours. It is so relaxing in there. The benefits of halotherapy include aiding respiratory conditions allowing for better breathing, healthier skin as micro particles of salt land on your skin, sounder sleep and improved wellness.
Interestingly, it is said that just 30 minutes inside the Salt Room helps generate negative ions which can counterbalance the influx of positive ions from the electronic devices we use. This is said to improve overall mental and emotional health helping you to relax and de-stress. The room uses Himalayan salt panels that are gently warmed and you can sit underneath them on a heated seating area. It is so cosy in there and really is a wonderful place to relax.
There’s also a cardio and weights gym to make use of as well as circuits and cables gym. However, we didn’t make use of these during our day at the spa.
Treatments at Fairlawns Spa
As part of our package, we were entitled to a 10 minute Aqua Massage and a couture treatment. I chose a facial and my Sister had a back massage. The treatments at the spa always feel very luxurious and my half an hour of pampering went so quick, I’m pretty sure I fell asleep. The Spa uses Elemis products throughout their treatments and I was given a booklet at the end of my treatment with information about what products were used and what products were recommended for my skin should I want to buy them. I have found previously at other spas that there’s a hard sell on products used in treatments leaving you feeling awkward and uncomfortable if this isn’t something you want to do. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case at all at the Fairlawns which I really liked and probably would encourage me more to buy something.
We both really enjoyed our day at Fairlawns Spa. We didn’t find it too busy as there seems to be plenty for everyone to do. We would have liked a warmer pool but that is our only criticism. We had a wonderful day in a relaxing environment and we’d love to do it again soon.
Edit: In terms of prices, the voucher we received was priced at £210 from Buyagift. This entitled us to a Spa Day with treatments and lunch for two at Fairlawns Spa. You can buy the same package direct from the spa for the same price at £105 each for the Spa Day experience plus lunch and treatments.
We were invited by Buyagift to review a spa of our choice thanks to their wonderful range of gift vouchers. If you’re looking to gift someone special a day of pampering and relaxation then I would absolutely recommend you looking to Buyagift for a gift voucher. What a treat!
Disclosure: Thanks to Buyagift who gave us the voucher to use at Fairlawns in exchange for this post. All words and images are my own.
