When it comes to British fashion there is always something new and fresh to enjoy. Right now, it is stylish and flattering skirts, they are well and truly back in fashion. Virtually every retailer is offering their customers dozens of different styles to choose between. So, the question to answer right now is which ones should you be wearing? Well, the answer depends on the occasion and which styles work best for you.
Identify your body type
If you have not worn a skirt, for a while, identifying your body type before going shopping for one is a good idea. Some skirt cuts are really going to suit you, while others will not be worth your while trying on. You can learn how to measure yourself properly and identify your body type by watching useful tutorials and masterclasses.
Skirts for apple shaped women
If you carry most of your weight around your middle, you will want to choose a skirt that has a relatively high waistband that sits around the narrowest point of your body. High-waisted flouncy skirts tend to work the best. Look for a skirt with detailing in the bottom area. This will help to draw attention downwards away from your belly area. You should also try on a few skater skirts.
Skirts for the hourglass figure
Women with hourglass figures look their best in skirts that accentuate their curves. A well-fitted pencil skirt will work especially well.
Skirts for pear shaped women
If your hips are the widest part of your body, an A-line skirt is the way to go. But you need to choose one with a waist that sits on the narrowest part of your waist. Look for one that flares out over your hips. If you can choose one that finishes mid-calf, so the flare is more gradual. Pleated midi-skirtsare a great option.
Skirts for the boyish figure
For skinny women with small hips and thighs,a wrap skirt is a good option. It provides definition at the waist and allows you to draw attention to what are usually beautifully shaped legs.
The best skirt style for petite women
A lot of petite women struggle to find a skirt cut that sits well on them. A good starting point is an A-line mini or midi cut. This sounds counter-intuitive, but shorter skirts really do look great on smaller women. The fact that the skirt finishes above the knee actually gives the illusion of more height.
Skirts for tall women
Many tall women struggle to find a skirtthat they like wearing. For them, narrower cuts usually work best. They do accentuate the legsbut in a good way. A mid-calf cut usually looks especially good on a tall woman.
