If there’s one toy that Olly, my five year old son, has loved since he was little, it’s a diecast car. He absolutely loves them and his collection of cars is overwhelming. Ones with real tyres, ones with doors that open, ones with headlights that flash, ones with sirens, he’s collecting them all and has a fantastic memory of each and every one of them. Tonka recently sent him a selection of their diecast vehicles and to both of our surprise, he didn’t have them in his collection so you can imagine how delighted he was.
Tonka are world famous for their incredible collection of realistic diecast cars. Olly was sent their Tonka Diecast Big Rigs, a couple of their Monster Trucks and their three pack of Emergency Vehicles. Having recently reviewed their Tonka Trucks, we already knew what brilliant quality the vehicles were. Each well made to the highest standards with no flimsy parts or pieces.
Olly has loved playing with each of the vehicles. Although to me and you, they’re just vehicles, they each do something different (according to Olly!) The Big Rigs have an important job to do; the Long Haul Semi-Truck delivers products to shops and supermarkets and the Flat Bed Crate Truck delivers international goods going overseas. Both of which have brilliant detailing and look just like American Big Rigs that we’ve only ever seen on the television. The crate detaches for brilliant interactive play.
The Monster Trucks have enormous wheels and can plough over anything and everything in their way. The Tonka Monster Garbage Crusher and the Tonka Monster Flame Destroyer both have a rugged design but are built to last. They’re built to a 1:55th scale so they’re identical to their larger counterparts in smaller form.
The most popular cars in the selection we were sent was the Emergency Vehicles set of three; a Fire Engine, Police Car and an Ambulance. All of the vehicles are UK designs so little ones will be familiar with them after recognising them on the road when they’ve been out and about. Olly’s really enjoyed playing with these and has created many a scenario when the Fire Brigade, the Police and Ambulance staff are needed all at once. The detailing on the cars is realistic and again built to a 1:55th scale.
Olly has loved playing with his Tonka vehicles. We’ve had the playmat out on many afternoons after school and he even took them away on holiday with us stashed away in his backpack. To us they’re just vehicles, but to children they help unlock a world of creativity and imagination. It’s wonderful to see this come to life in front of us.
Prices are from £6.99 each and the set of three emergency vehicles is priced from £11.99.
All the Tonka vehicles are suitable for children aged 3 plus and can be purchased instore at ASDA or online with Amazon* (ASDA have 25% off all the TONKA range instore between 11thJune and 11thJuly as part of their Roll-back campaign).
