BRIO Metro Railway Set // Review

BRIO Metro Railway Set // Review

It was a miserable Monday morning, Olly was at home poorly with the chicken pox and already getting a bit of cabin fever being stuck in the house. Imagine his surprise when there was a knock at the front door and it was the postman with the best delivery ever. Olly had been sent the BRIO Metro Railway Set to test out and add to his BRIO collection and to be honest, it couldn’t have come at a better time.

BRIO Metro Railway Set

The BRIO Metro Railway set is quite simply brilliant. It’s a set with 20 pieces including a metro station with sliding doors, a tunnel, platform seats and passengers. The set also contains 7 pieces of curved track, a two way junction and an end of the line piece of track.

BRIO Metro Railway Set

One of the smartest functions of the Metro Railway Set is that the Metro that is included in the set has working lights and sound. When the metro is in action, the three lights at the front will come on and a sound will play which mimics the sound of a tube train rolling into the station on the Underground. Olly is familiar with the tube as he’s travelled on it with us previously so he was hugely excited to hear this additional element of play.

The set can be used alone as the curved track pieces connect into an oval but can also be used as part of a wider set and links up to join the rest of the BRIO wooden railway tracks and pieces. Olly has really enjoyed connecting his existing BRIO with the Metro Railway Set as it’s bringing reality to life.

A couple of LR44 (1.5V) batteries are needed for the metro to enable it to make sounds and show light but these come ready installed. We haven’t changed the batteries yet and it has been well played with so far so I’m hopeful that these pre-installed batteries will last well.

BRIO Metro Railway Set

Olly has really enjoyed playing with the Metro Railway Set. It’s life like with a wooden ticket machine and a plastic metro map display all of which you’d find down on the platform of the metro. If you’re looking for a modern update to your existing BRIO wooden railway sets, this is it! Lots of fun for the whole family.

The BRIO Metro Railway Set retails at £49.99 which I think is a brilliant price for a modern twist of a wooden classic.

That looks like a lovely set, hours of fun just when you need it being stuck indoors. I hope Olly’s feeling better now with no lasting scars. Is Brio German? I’ve not heard of it as a brand but we have some track pieces that look similar that my son was given when he was 1 from German relatives. He loves it still aged 6 but finds it a bit limiting and I’ve resisted adding to it with tons of track pieces. These additions look really good and creative and could easily be played with on their own by our 2 year old. It’s out of my price range but worth searching for on Ebay by the look of it!
