On Saturday, I took the boys down to our local retail park in Wednesbury for a spot of storytelling. It’s not often that a blog event happens on your doorstep so I was rather excited to take a look around the new-look Bensons for Beds store whilst the boys enjoyed a storytelling workshop.
When we arrived we went upstairs to the childrens area of the store where Nikky Smedley and her incredible storytelling skirt were waiting to greet us. Nikky, for those not in the know, used to play LaaLaa (the yellow one) in the hit childrens TV series, Teletubbies.
We took a seat and Nikky began. Olly loves a good bedtime story and was in awe of Nikky’s storytelling technique. She was incredible engaging with hand movements and facial expressions, it was a delight to listen to her and get enthralled in her stories. She also used her incredible magical storytelling skirt which also hid some of her props and encouraged little ones to get involved and become part of the story.
We listened to three stories all of which were brilliant and Olly came home recalling various parts of the story. His particular favourite story was about a suitcase that children filled for a family holiday. Having been on a family holiday with Olly packing his own bag, I could relate to the story where children want to take the most random items on holiday with them!
Once the stories were over, it was time for a coffee, a quick catch up with blogger friends and the chance to have a wander around the store. The children’s area is quite large with a brilliant selection of beds; ones with storage, ones with steps, ones with sofas underneath as well as single beds too! It’s great to see them close up, rather than on a computer screen as you can gauge their size and suitability. Olly took a particular fancy to one of the cabin style beds as it was easy to see why as it had ladders to climb to get into bed with a comfortable sofa underneath with a desk and storage for books! Perfect for little readers.
Whilst we were there we took a look at the rest of the store and I was really impressed with the designs of the mock-up rooms. In each, there was a bed paired with stylish interiors. It gave me lots of ideas for how I’d like our bedroom to look when we redecorate.
We had a lovely morning at Bensons for Beds and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them if you’re looking for options when buying your children’s next bed.
