It’s New Years Eve, the final day of 2017 and so of course, it’s natural to reflect on the year gone by. Like many it’s been a year of ups and downs but a year full of progress for us all in more ways than one.
2017 was the year when our little boy Olly turned four years old. He’s transitioned from pre-school to Reception and although we still have a testing time every morning his progress in school is incredible. Watching your little boy learning to read and write is so wonderful to watch. He’s thrived in school, made lots of lovely friends and is doing so well. We’re very proud of him and think he’s going to have such a brilliant year in 2018.
Shilts has had a great year both at home and at work. He’s worked incredibly hard in his academic role and has been given the opportunity to take on more work and increased responsibility. It’s so good to see him in a job which he genuinely loves. It’s amazing to see the difference in a person who loves their work and enjoys going into the office / university each day. It was most definitely the right move for him away from teaching. Gone are the days of late night worries over marking, exam results and meeting unachievable targets. At home, Shilts has completed his postgraduate course and graduated in October. Working full time, being a Dad, Husband and a student is tough but he’s managed to squeeze it all in and is now studying for his Masters. I’m very proud of him and all he wants to achieve.
For me, I started this year struggling with both my health and my work life balance. We finally got the infertility appointment we had so desperately hoped for in February and began making positive steps to increase our chances of conceiving. To our absolute shock, in May we found out the incredible news that we were pregnant and our much wanted second baby was due in January 2018. We conceived with me taking a prescription for Metformin and multi-vitamins along with me following a healthy lifestyle plan, thanks to Slimming World. I’m now 38 weeks pregnant and expecting our baby boy to arrive via c-section in just under two weeks time. I am literally bursting with hope, excitement and love for what our family will look like in 2018.
This blog has had an another incredible year with some fantastic opportunities for both me and my family. The blog had an incredible run of being ranked at number one with Tots 100 for four consecutive months, something which I was very proud of. I was invited to be taken on by an agency to represent me as a social media influencer earlier in the year which I declined but it was a particular highlight of my blogging career right there.
We’ve worked with many incredible brands this year and I’m so grateful that they’ve wanted to work with us. We’ve enjoyed press trips with Butlins and Canvas Holidays and had the pleasure at staying with various hotels over the course of the year. We’d love to travel more in the new year and see more of the UK and further afield.
I have really wanted the blog to work for me and my family much more than just a part-time hobby that supplements our income to help me stay at home with my boys. In 2018, I’ll be on maternity leave from my HR job and really want to make a success of this blog and my self-employed career as a blogger and a freelance writer. I am desperate to stay at home with my boys more and capture all those moments I missed out on with Olly (I’m still so sad about those but as a working Mum what can you do?!) but need to work hard to make it work for me and my family.
We’ve made progress with our home and redecorated our living room which we absolutely love. We’ve finally finished our kitchen and we have high hopes for more redecoration projects in our home next year.
Thank you to all the readers that have visited this year, encouraged me and support my family. We hope you’ll stay along for the ride into the new year, I have high hopes of a fabulous year ahead!
Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year
