It’s got to be one of my most favourite times of the year, I bloomin’ love Christmas. It’s a time for family get togethers, playing games, watching movies, making memories and eating all the lovely food and drink (except this year as I’m pregnant!) The lovely Laura from Dear Bear and Beany has tagged me in this fun and festive Christmas tag which allows me to indulge in my favourite time of year.
What’s Your Favourite Christmas Movie?
My absolute favourite film is Santa Clause The Movie. It’s one that I have watched since I was a little girl and I always like to think that the North Pole is exactly how it’s portrayed in the movie. It’s just an absolute classic movie that I will never get bored of watching and hope one day that I can pass the love of the film onto my own children.
Have You Ever Had A White Christmas?
I’m pretty sure we have had a white Christmas but sadly I can’t remember it. Google tells me it was back in 2010 which wasn’t that long ago but obviously wasn’t that memorable as I can’t remember it!
What Is Your Favourite Christmas Song?
I have two favourite Christmas songs; Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas and Last Christmas by Wham. All I Want for Christmas is an absolute classic and never fails to get me in the mood for Christmas, everyone knows the song and I’m even passing on the love for it to my four year old Olly who loves to listen and dance to it too! Last Christmas is a brilliant song and even more poignant now that our beloved George Michael has passed away. Wham were one of the first ever bands I listened to as a little girl (I think I have my Mom to thank for that) and I still love their music today.
Do You Open Any Presents On Christmas Eve?
No, we save all our gifts for Christmas Day. We have a Christmas Eve box that Olly opens on Christmas Eve so that is full of things he can use / play with on Christmas Eve; new Christmas pjyamas to wear, a new Christmas book for bedtime, some reindeer food to sprinkle on the lawn and usually a chocolate treat.
Can You Name All Of Santa’s Reindeer?
Oh gosh, the pressure! No, I always forget one of them. Poor things!
What Holiday Traditions Are You Looking Forward To This Year?
It’s our last Christmas as a family of three before our baby boy is born in the new year so I’m looking forward to making more memories with Olly. We like to have some family days out; we’ve already been to Drayton Manor for their Magical Christmas event and we’ve met Father Christmas at LaplandUK which was absolutely incredible. I’m looking forward to having some lazy days with Olly baking Christmas treats in the kitchen, making a mess with Christmas crafts and watching The Polar Express (which is now a Christmas tradition in our house and one of Olly’s favourite Christmas films).
Is Your Christmas Tree Real or Fake?
We absolutely love a real Christmas tree. When Shilts and I first got together we had a real tree from our local forestry commission. It was beautiful but it kept falling over. As the years went by we opted for a fake one which we could put away in the loft (we were skint so made savings wherever we could) but since Olly’s been born, we’ve bought a real one or received one as part of a blog review. We absolutely love our Pines and Needles tree. It’s just beautiful and smells so good!
What Is Your Favourite Holiday Treat/Food/Sweet?
Aside from my Mom’s lethal mulled wine which I’m far too pregnant to try out this year (sob!) I absolutely love making (and eating) Christmas cookies and gingerbread. I’m not too hot on making mince pies, I usually leave that delight to my Dad and Sister who are much better than I am.
Be Honest, Do You Like Giving Or Receiving Gifts Better?
In all honesty, I like to give presents rather than receive them. It sounds awful but sometimes it’s better to receive nothing than something that someone has thrown together for you just so that you have a gift to open. I’d much rather people save their money and spend the time together rather than buy a useless gift that isn’t suited to someone. This is why I rarely take part in Secret Santa Gift Exchanges.
What Is The Best Christmas Present You Ever Received?
I have had some pretty amazing presents over the years. One of the best presents I received as a child was a big bag of Forever Friends goodies. My Mom and Dad had filled a Santa sack full of gifts that had Forever Friends on them; I had melamine beakers, plates, cuddly toys, bedding, stationery, it was fantastic and I loved it so much!
What Is Your Dream Place To Visit For The Holiday Season?
It’s just a dream but one year I’d love to take my boys to Disney for Christmas. The decorations always look so fantastic and I’m sure the atmosphere would be just incredible. One day we’ll break tradition and visit.
Are You A Pro Present Wrapper Or Do You Fail Miserably?
I’d say I’m half and half. I like to make the effort and dress up presents with jingle bells and oversize glitter initials. Unfortunately this year, I’ve gone for convenience (and I’m on a budget) and most of our gifts are wrapped up in wrapping paper and then delivered in a Christmas gift bag!
Most Memorable Christmas Memory?
I have really fond memories of spending Christmas Day with my parents and my Sister. We were only allowed to wake up my Mom and Dad from 8am so if we ventured downstairs to see if he had been, we had to be quiet and we were only allowed to look at our stockings and not open any gifts.
What Made You Realise The Truth About Santa?
My Sister and I once asked for Santa’s autograph and he left a signature which looked very much like my Mom’s! I think that must have been the year we accidentally found our Christmas presents on top of the freezer in the garage on Christmas Eve and we questioned our beliefs from then on. Sad times!
What Makes The Holidays Special For You?
The Christmas holidays are always a special time for me. It’s just a time when all the family gets together and spends time with each other; playing games, eating ridiculous amounts of food, watching films and it’s perfectly acceptable to fall asleep in each others company. Since Olly has been born, I’ve really enjoyed watching him enjoy the magic we’ve created and seeing his face on Christmas Day when he realises the pile of presents under the tree are for him. It’s just wonderful and one of the best days to be a parent!
I’m passing the festive joy of the Christmas tag onto these lovely bloggers, so pop over and have a read;
