The new Pud in a Mug from Dr Oetker

We don’t usually have many puddings in our cupboards, but when Dr Oetker offered to send us some Pud in a Mug sachets to try out, we couldn’t resist. Dr Oetker Pud in a Mug is a fantastic concept, each sachet contains the ingredients except the liquid to make a mug cake. There are six flavours to choose from including their newest flavour Sticky Toffee and we were sent Rich Chocolate and Chocolate Chip to try out too.

Olly does love a bit of sponge cake so I knew that these would be fantastic for him to try out. They are quick and easy to make up. Just pour the required amount of milk (60m) into a 250ml mug and open the sachet and pour the contents into the mug. Give the ingredients a really good stir and it’s ready to pop in the microwave. The Pud in a Mug desserts take less than 2 minutes on full power in the microwave and they’re ready to eat once they’ve cooled down after a minute or two.

We tried out all three of the flavours after dinner as a treat and they were a hit. Olly’s favourite was the Rich Chocolate Pud as there was a rich chocolate sauce at the bottom of the mug. My favourite was the Sticky Toffee Pud as it had a lovely sauce which worked perfectly with the sponge mix. We found the Chocolate Chip Pud in a Mug a little too dry but then we both have a sweet tooth and enjoy the indulgent sauce at the bottom.

We didn’t add any toppings to our puds as we didn’t want to ruin the flavour (also four year olds who don’t enjoy different foods touching can be interesting to deal with) but you could tip them out of the mugs and enjoy them with your favourite accompaniment; ice cream, custard, cream or your favourite flavoured sauce. I found the mug full of pud more than enough as a dessert, it’s a good sized portion as an after dinner treat.

I think these are a brilliant invention. For a family that doesn’t have cake or pudding very often, buying these individual sachets is a great way of reducing waste and perfect to keep in the cupboard for when you want a little treat. All you need in the house is milk which if you’re anything like my family, is a staple in the fridge anyway.

If you fancy a sweet treat that’s warm with plenty of flavour (and oozes a rich chocolate and sticky toffee sauce) then you really need to try out these Pud in a Mugs from Dr Oetker. You can find them in the baking and dessert mix aisle in the supermarket and retail at around 85p per sachet.

Disclosure: We were sent the products free of charge in exchange for this review. All words and images are my own.
