Putting his best foot forward // Start-rite school shoes review

*Shoes gifted for review

When it comes to school shoes, I’ve quickly learnt that they need to be robust, strong and durable. Olly’s only been in pre-school for 8 months and his current pair of black school shoes are completely ruined. If I’m honest, I was worried how they would last the last half term at school but thankfully Start-Rite offered to send Olly a new pair and it came just at the right time.

Start-rite shoes

Start-Rite have a brilliant selection of shoes for younger boys and girls and having had a look before I showed Olly, I liked pretty much all of the school shoes in the range.  To save any arguments from my headstrong four year old, I let him choose his own shoes and he decided upon the Tarantula, black leather school shoes.

He chose the Tarantula school shoes

The Start-Rite Tarantula black leather boys rip tape school shoes are really smart and very practical. I was keen to choose a pair of shoes that are robust and durable. Shoes that are scuff resistant is pretty essential and the Tarantula shoes have rip tape fastenings which is great for Olly who is learning to put on and take off his own school shoes.

Although I’m not a spider fan, Olly loved these shoes and when they arrived, he was so happy with them, he couldn’t wait to show them off to his friends at school. I love that he’s so pleased with them as it makes getting ready for school in the morning much easier.

Start-rite shoes

Olly’s been wearing his new Tarantula Start-rite school shoes for the last couple of weeks at school and they’ve been brilliant. From a Mum point of view, they’re fairly lightweight so they’re not too heavy for Olly to wear on a daily basis, they’re scuff resistant which is ideal, they have a padded ankle for comfort and support and as Mum of a little boy who gets very sweaty really quickly, the shoes have breathable linings and removable insoles to keep feet fresh.

High quality and well made school shoes

This is our first pair of Start-Rite shoes and having spoken to friends about them over the last couple of weeks, I can’t believe we haven’t tried them before. Price wise, they’re not cheap but I’m a big believer in you get what you pay for. The Tarantula pair of shoes are priced at £48.99 but you can feel the quality in them, they’re really well made. We’ll definitely be buying more shoes from Start-Rite in the future.

Oh I love these, the little tarantulas on them are awesome! I’m going to buy startrite next term after going through several different brands including clarks with Libby this year and they’ve all just fallen apart.

We like Startrite shoes too, but our local shops don’t tend to stock them so end up with another brand. Thankfully it only seemed to be reception where N wrecked his school shoes (getting through 3 pairs – 2 expensive ones, and a cheap pair), even though their school only wear school shoes indoors. They were wrecked from him scrambling around the floor everyday at after school club. This year, he’s still in the first pair from Sept.
Phew! because buying him school shoes is massively annoying now our local independent shop has closed, as has Brantano., and I don’t find the 2 high street shops fit the shoes properly.
