In search of bluebells

Given the rare occurrence of a dry and sunny Bank Holiday Monday, we knew we should make the most of it. Last Monday, we went to Lodge Hill Bluebells in Yoxall, Staffordshire to have a look around. I have wanted to visit the bluebell woods for such a long time so when I saw my friends photographs on Instagram during the weekend, I didn’t give the family much of a choice as to what we did with our bonus day off.

Lodge Hill Bluebells

Lodge Hill Bluebells are only open for a short number of weeks whilst the bluebells are in full bloom. Open on selected dates between 9th April and 7th May, the walking trails are a great way to take in the full beauty of the expanse of bluebells around this area of private land.

It’s always been on my bucket list to go and explore the bluebells so I couldn’t wait to have a walk through the woods and take in the view. There’s a small entrance fee which is payable at the café (children under five are free) and then the staff give a brief talk about the walking trails around the woods, how long they’ll take you and what you can expect to see along the way. The café is very cute with bails of hay to sit on and enjoy a hot cup of tea and a slice of cake. Although we didn’t try any of the refreshments, they did look yummy!

There are four trails all with stunning views of the Staffordshire countryside and walks amongst carpets of beautiful bluebells. Given the time we arrived, we decided to walk up the hill and around the Lodge Hill loop. The paths are uneven and very natural which add to the character of the site. Along the way, you can see farm animals such as pigs and sheep as well as some very friendly horses.

It was breathtakingly beautiful, especially on a gorgeous day with blue skies and bright sunshine. We had such a lovely afternoon walking around the woods, it was just really lovely.

Of course, it’s a bit of a bloggers dream to walk around such a gorgeous location so I took along my ‘big’ camera to take some photographs.  Such a stunning place and I’m sure we’ll be back next year to have a look around.

If you want to check the bluebells out for yourself the address is Lodge Hill Bluebells, Lodge Lane, Yoxall, DE13 8PJ
