Four years on with The Essential One // review

When Olly was a baby I was introduced to The Essential One and fell in love with their clothing. They had the most adorable range of newborn baby clothes made from super soft cotton and they were just perfect for him. I loved to dress him in their cosy sleepsuits (for both day and night), they were so practical and the designs were just gorgeous. It was a very sad day when he grew out of his trusty sleep suits.

So imagine my delight when four years on, I discovered that they had designed a range of clothing for children up to the age of six. Now, at the age of four, our little catalogue cover model (did I tell you Olly was featured on their product catalogue for Autumn Winter 2013?) my not-so-little man is back in their clothes and he couldn’t wait to show them off.

The Essential One believe that children should enjoy their childhoods with all the freedom, fun and innocence that they experience in their early years and as a parent to a cheeky four year old, that’s exactly what I believe too. I love the family of characters that they have used throughout their range of clothing. There’s a bunny, a bear, a mouse, a monkey, a cat and a fox, they’re all very cute and feature across the whole range of clothing from newborn through to their younger boys and girls range.

Olly was sent an adorable outfit from their younger boys range to try and during a rare sunny afternoon (on Bank Holiday Monday no less) it was the perfect opportunity for him to try it out. Olly was sent the Boys Bailey Bear and Friends Printed T-Shirt in green, the Boys Bailey Bear Hoodie in beige and the Boys Bailey Bear Denim Stripe Shorts in blue.

The outfit was the perfect combo for a sunny afternoon. We went walking through the bluebells and as it was a warm day, the shorts were particularly welcomed.

The striped denim shorts are soft wash, so whether it’s the first time or the fifty-first time of wearing, they’ll be soft and comfortable to wear. Olly will always tell me if he’s unhappy wearing something to the point where he will point blank refuse to wear it but he loved the shorts. I love the detailing on the knee with the embroidered patch featuring the very lovable Bailey Bear and the pockets are particularly useful especially when you’re four and marvel in finding pine cones and other bits of useless treasure. The shorts also have an elasticated waist with an adjustable button so we can tailor the fit as Olly grows throughout the summer.

The t-shirt he wore features Bailey Bear print all over and Olly is a huge teddy bear fan. He doesn’t go anywhere without his Little Ted so he loved wearing a t-shirt with the cute little character on. I really like the colours and the details on the pocket and the cuffs on the sleeves.

The Essential One

As the weather is so changeable at present, wearing layers is essential on days out and adventures. Olly has recently learnt to do his own zip up so he was particularly pleased that he could do up his own hoodie. The top features a practical hood with The Essential One label, fantastic Bailey Bear detailing near the pockets and contrasting coloured cuffs. I really like that the hoodie is lined in a contrasting coloured fabric, it’s not only stylish but warm for Olly to wear too.

I loved seeing Olly in this outfit. From a Mum point of view, it’s highly practical, colourful and captures Olly’s interest with the Bailey Bear designs. It’s also washed really well too so I don’t really mind Olly throwing himself down muddy paths giggling his head off having a whale of a time.
