Taking blogging a step further in 2017

It’s absolutely no secret that I love to blog. I love my blog (it’s pretty much my second baby) and I love the blogging community. I have made some fantastic friends through it and have been able to have some of the most amazing experiences for my family and I.

In 2017, I really want to take it a step further and make it work for me. I’ve been part-time self-employed on this blog for the last couple of years and I’ve been accepting sponsored posts and brand campaigns which have helped me pay for the day off during the week that I have with my little boy. I yearn to be at home more and really want to blog more so I can spend more time at home with him. I want to be able to collect him from school and be able to be there for him to help with homework, play with him and just support him more often. I often feel like a rubbish mum as I have to go off to work and really struggle to find the time to fit everything in. I’m spending far too much time post midnight trying to cram everything in and something has to give and I really don’t want it to be my blog or my sanity!

My blogging strategy for the year ahead is this:

  • To work more closely with brands on paid campaigns and sponsored posts – If you’re reading this and would like to work with me, I would LOVE you to get in touch. I was blown away earlier this week when my blog was ranked as joint No.1 in the Tots100 Parenting charts for January 2017 and I was also selected as Blogger of the Month for January 2017 by Tots100 which was an incredible achievement given that I work predominately spend most of my time during the week working in Human Resources. I am incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved but really want to make it work for me and my boys.
  • To take a Social Media Manager Support Course – I would love to add another string to my bow and learn a bit more about social media manager work as this is something I would love to do. I have grown my own social media channels for the last eight years and I would love to do this professionally. I have signed up with Social Bods to take their Social Media Manager Support Course which starts in the next few weeks and I hope to gain more knowledge to apply my skills more effectively so that I may use this as a potential employment opportunity later this year.
  • Copywriting and get my ‘freelance’ abilities out there – I’m a good writer, I have a good eye for detail and have lots of examples on my blog of my work. I’d love to be able to use these my skills to help others and ultimately get paid for it. There are plenty of avenues for copywriters so I want to explore these and hopefully add another string to my ‘freelance’ bow. I’m also on LinkedIn if you want to connect.

I have lots of plans to give this my best shot to make this blog work for me and my family. It’s going to be hard work but it always has been, I’m not work shy and have already learnt so much about blogging, coding and social media that I really think I can make it work. I will put every minute of my ‘spare’ time in this and really hope I can make it work. Here’s hoping!

I am 100% confident that you will reach your goal Emma – it’s scary though! The way I did it was by gradually reducing my work hours over around 9 months before finally leaving (when they wouldn’t let me work just 4 hours a week – haha). I hope your workplace can be as flexible. Good luck x

Thanks so much Sam, I really appreciate your support. I doubt that’s an option for me sadly but something to consider x

Great ideas! I now blog full-time and have never looked back. Going to local networking groups and connecting with local marketing agencies too can be a good way of picking up some freelance work as well – in my case, social media management for some local brands and white labelling blogging for local marketing companie’s clients. Love your blog by the way! Good luck :)

Nice post, I think it all comes down to having a good balance in life. Doing a job you enjoy and having the time to spend with your family and in turn makes people happier.
