10 things that made me smile | January 2017

January can typically be a really rubbish month for a lot of people. The weather isn’t all that great, you’ll have probably had to wait ages for payday after getting paid just before Christmas back in December (yes, six whole weeks ago!) and the come down from all the Christmas hype can be a bit meh! So, to bounce back from all the doom and gloom I’m concentrating on the positive things in life.

10 things January 2017

Here’s my 10 things in January that have really made me smile.

  • A new hair cut – I have wanted to cut and colour my hair for ages but haven’t had the time or the money to get it done. I had a Pinterest board full of styles I loved and was undecided what to do with it. I decided to book myself in with my Christmas money and opted for a short bob with a two tone highlights. I originally wanted to go shorter but wasn’t brave enough when I was in the chair. I love it!
  • Finding a new dress to lust over – In July, we have a big family wedding and I would love a new outfit to wear. I have seen lots of beautiful dresses over on the Chi Chi Clothing website and have my eye on at least 3 dresses. I was never really a dress kind of girl but in recent years, I turn to dresses to make me feel a bit more glammed up. I’m going to buy one and use it as my focus to lose weight over the next six months.
  • Getting the kitchen tiled – Our kitchen has had white painted walls for the last 5 years as we never got round to buying any tiles when we had the kitchen fitted. Luckily for me, I won a runners up prize with Tile Mountain last year which gave me a voucher to spend with them. I was able to buy all our kitchen tiles and some accessories and just had to pay a man in the know how to put them up. I am beyond delighted with the finished result and wonder why we didn’t do it sooner!
  • Building friendships – Last November, I was invited to Slimming World HQ for their bloggers lunch and was in awe of the other attendees whose weight loss stories were just incredible. Following the lunch, all of the girls got talking and have stayed in contact. We talk every single day in a little Whats App group and I am so pleased that I’m building up friendships with these inspiring ladies. Not only can I ask them advice out weight loss but I’ve learnt so much more about make up and behind the scenes in careers I knew nothing about. I’ll be seeing them all again in the next few weeks which I am so excited about!
  • I know Miss Slinky 2017 – I couldn’t not write about the friendships I’ve made from our bloggers lunch without mentioning the amazing Jennifer Ginley who just this week has been crowned as Slimming World’s Miss Slinky for 2017. I met Jen back in November and seriously didn’t realise the extent of her weight loss. She is tiny! It’s impossible to ever imagine her as a bigger lady but she was and she’s proof that the Slimming World plan works if you stick to it and you have self belief. The title of ‘Miss Slinky’ is a national award and last Monday, Jen was given the title at the prestigious Ritz Hotel in front of the media. Jen’s weight loss is absolutely incredible, she’s lost over ten stone in one year and her attitude to it is just spot on. You’ll no doubt have seen her on the TV, in the papers and online. Her story is just amazing. Well done Jen, I’m so happy for you!
  • A calmer morning pre-school routine – Going back to pre-school after the Christmas break was difficult for Olly and we had tears, sickness and arguments quite early on. We had a discussion and we’ve changed our routine in the morning to prevent these draining and stressful events. So far, they seem to have helped but we have a long way to go until there are no tears from Olly on the playground.
  • Being No.1 in the Tots100 Charts – To my absolute delight, my blog was ranked as {joint} No.1 in the Tots100 blogging charts. Of course, it doesn’t really mean anything but after five years of being in the charts, achieving the highest rank possible is a big pat on the back. I write my blog in the evenings and on weekends when my little boy is in bed so to accomplish this as a side line to my main job is quite an achievement.
  • Making plans for family holidays – We have booked our first holiday of the Summer to France in June and we cannot wait. We’re flying to Paris to stay with Canvas Holidays and I’m so excited. We can’t wait to explore the French countryside, practice my school girl French and buy a fresh baguette straight from the boulangerie. We’re even considering a day trip to Disneyland Paris which again is hugely exciting, I cannot wait to take Olly there.
  • Losing weight – In January I’ve lost 9lb to date (there’s one more weigh in of January so I’m hoping it will be more) and I already feel a lot more in control and confident. Being overweight has massive consequences for me and I’m already starting to feel much better about myself for losing just 9lb. My husband joined a SW class too and has lost 13lb in three weeks, I like to think he’s got good support (wink!) but he’s doing really well and should be really proud of himself.
  • Decluttering is good – I have wanted to make a start on decluttering our house for a long time but never really got the time (or the inclination) to do it. It’s one of those jobs where the house looks worse before it gets better so I had put it off. I’ve been making a start on decluttering the house starting with our kitchen and it already looks so much neater and cleaner. We had a pile for the charity shop, stuff to recycle, stuff to bin and stuff to sell. One room down, only seven more to go!

So there we have my 10 things that were great in January. What were yours?

Seven rooms….it sounds like you live in a mansion. Well done on achieving so many things in January. May the rest of your year be just as successful.

Ha I definitely don’t live in a mansion, just a small two bedroomed terrace with plenty of work needed!
