And just like that the year 2016 has come to an end. It’s been a good year for us as a family, we’ve had lots of fun with many family days out, adventures and travels. And whilst I am really looking forward to the new year and the opportunities it brings, it’s a great chance to reflect on what has happened throughout the year.
At the beginning of the year, Shilts (my husband) began his new career as an Academic. He left teaching in schools behind and became a Senior University Lecturer. He’s had a fantastic year, has enjoyed the freedom of being able to independently run his own schedule and has had some brilliant feedback from colleagues. I’m very proud of him and he’s undoubtedly a much happier person (and a lot less stressed) for making the move from teaching.
2016 was the year our little boy turned three and he started pre-school in September. It’s been a huge learning curve for us all as he adjusts to a new routine and life in school but on the whole Olly has loved pre-school, made some lovely friends and is coming on leaps and bounds with his reading and writing. Olly is growing into such a wonderful little boy, he’s really observant and such a clever little thing. I forget sometimes that he’s only three but I am the most proud Mummy. I love him so much, he really does bring out the best in me.
Our family have enjoyed some wonderful adventures this year and have been to Lytham St Annes, Lincolnshire, Windsor, Dawlish in Devon and had a wonderful week away in beautiful Fuerteventura. We have plans to go away next year and have plans in place for Olly’s 4th birthday in February and hopefully a Summer holiday in sunnier climes.
For me, 2016 has been a year full of mixed emotions. On one hand, I feel a bit of a failure (weight gain, still no second baby and a worklife balance I’m not happy about) and determined to make some positive changes in the new year and on the other, I’ve realised I’m a good person and have so many talents and skills that I should be using. 2017 WILL be the year of change so I’m looking forward to making positive changes for me and my family and finding the courage to do so.
