As a family we love to stay in hotels for weekends away. It’s a chance to recharge the batteries, with a change of scenery and often the weekends presents themselves with new experiences and opportunities for us all to have a lovely weekend together.
Earlier this month, we were invited to stay at Marriott Maida Vale hotel in the heart of north west London. It was the perfect location for us as we had visited friends for a birthday party and intended on catching up with family the following day. We were really looking forward to staying at the hotel as it had recently gone through a multi-million pound renovation so we were really keen to seeing what they had done to the hotel.
We have been lucky enough to stay at several Marriott hotels over the last couple of years so was keen to seen how the hotel chain had modernised the rooms for couples and families like ours.
To our delight, the hotel rooms at the Marriott Maida Vale are super stylish. Their recent renovation has been inspired by the iconic Abbey Road zebra crossing literally just around the corner from the hotel and it really works with a monochrome theme throughout and musical detailing in the art work and furniture.
We were allocated a room with two double beds with an en-suite bathroom. The room had all mod cons including plugs by the bed (a huge positive for us as my husband has to sleep with a CPAP machine connected to the electric supply) USB sockets, reading lamps above the bed and air conditioning.
The room also had Apple TV which was super fun to play with (you can connect your phone to the TV via Bluetooth and access your phone and it’s contents on the large TV screen). I loved seeing my photographs on the TV whilst my husband connected his tablet and played a game of Sonic the Hedgehog!
The interior in the room was really modern and contemporary. It was so nice to see clever little touches without compromising space. My husband was really fond of the armchair in the room which he sat in to read Olly a bedtime story.
We all slept well, despite a middle of the night knock on the door (there was no-one there when I checked!) the luxury Hypnos beds and mattresses are super comfortable so we were refreshed and ready for breakfast when the alarm went off.
The hotel wasn’t overly busy so there was no rush at breakfast which is perfect for lazy Sunday mornings. The hotel breakfast was hot with plenty of choice; Olly had croissants with milk, my husband had a full English breakfast and I enjoyed a bowl of cereal with fruit with toast, scrambled eggs and mushrooms. The staff were all attentive and made us feel very welcome.
I was delighted to see that the location of the hotel is very popular with recording artists and in the Lobby area of the hotel, there’s a wall of fame where famous faces who have stayed at the hotel are on display. Excitingly, Olly Murs and the my 1990’s heart throbs, the Backstreet Boys had stayed there previously, unfortunately we didn’t see any celebrities over breakfast.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Marriott Maida Vale. It was a really comfortable hotel with super stylish rooms and secure parking. We would definitely consider going back there to explore more of the local area.
Disclosure: We stayed at the hotel as their guests but all words and images are my own.
