On the night before you go to pre-school

The time has come, tomorrow you’ll be off on an adventure into the next chapter of your life, you’re off to pre-school. Your little pre-school uniform is all washed, ironed and labelled and hanging on your door. Your new school book bag is ready for all the new reading books you’re going to bring home and enjoy. It’s time for you to embark on a massive learning curve sweetheart and I think you’re ready to take it all on.

This Summer you’ve come on leaps and bounds, as well as grown another couple of centimetres and another shoe size. You’ve learnt to do up your zip on your coat, you’ve mastered spelling and writing out your name (and Aunty Toni’s to her delight) and you’ve graduated from potty to using the toilet for grown ups. You’ve developed a fondness for watching Tom and Jerry with Daddy, listening to Coldplay, Justin Beaver (ha, that’s how you say it!) and Daddy’s trance music as well as perfecting your own little dance moves.  Our little boy is growing up fast yet I have to pinch myself that you’re only three and a half years old as most days, you act much, much older but please slow down baby boy, I’m not ready for the teenage strops just yet.

When you were born, I was so proud to have grown such a beautifully perfect little boy in my tummy. Over the last three years, you have taught me so much; to see the good in people, to see light where there is darkness and to enjoy and appreciate the little things in life. I am a better person for loving you and I hope you know just how much you are loved. It’s most definitely <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<this much>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (throws my arms out as widely as possible) and to the moon and back again.

I don’t know how the school drop off will go tomorrow morning sweetheart but I’ll be proudly walking you to school hand in hand knowing that you’re going to soak up every last little bit of knowledge thrown at you. You’ll be pushed to step outside your comfort zone but that’s okay as I will be here to listen to you and help you find your way.  You’re going to make some fantastic friends, you’re going to have to learn to share toys and the teachers time but I’m sure you’re going to take it all in your stride and come out smiling telling us all about your day.

Daddy and I are so proud of you, sleep well my darling as for tomorrow when you wake, you will move mountains and a magical adventure awaits. In the words of Dr Seuss,

“You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way!”

Good luck Olly, we love you xx
