A family break to Lytham St Annes

The long awaited summer holidays are here and I have been so excited to spend some time with my boys. I really crave quality time with them both as the weekends just aren’t long enough so when Boots Soltan asked me to go on a five star summer experience with them, I was really excited and knew exactly what I wanted to do.

Lytham St Annes beach

One of our all time favourite places to go as a family is the beach. We live in landlocked West Midlands so days out at the beach are few and far between but when we go, we always have an amazing time. Back in February, we went to stay in Lytham St Annes for a few days and it was such a lovely break that we knew that we would love to return in the warmer summer months. It’s always a risk when you plan something for the Summer in advance, especially with our great British weather being so unpredictable but we knew if it stayed dry we would have a fabulous time so we were delighted to see a bit of sunshine in the afternoon.

Lytham St Annes beach huts

We hired a beach hut on the South Promenade which was absolutely amazing. I’ve always wanted to hire a beach hut so it’s definitely something I can tick off my ultimate bucket list. These ones are new to the promenade and are absolutely fantastic. They have water, electricity, a fridge, kettle and a microwave so you can really make a day of it by the seaside.

We were able to have a long lazy day on the beach with somewhere very close by to have a hot cup of tea and eat our lunch out of the wind (and the swooping seagulls).

When we first got to Lytham St Annes the weather was dull, cloudy and overcast. I know full well from my very recent experience and from talking to the Boots Soltan skincare expert at Britmums back in June, how important it is to use adequate sun protection when it’s deceptively cloudy. You can still burn and damage your skin under the dull skies as the UVA and UVB rays can penetrate the cloud so we made sure we applied our Boots Soltan sun cream, that have the highest 5 star rating against UVA (those rays that cause underlying skin damage) before hitting the beach.

It was really important that Olly’s sensitive skin was protected from the harmful rays so we used the Boots Soltan Kids suncare lotion as it’s hypoallergenic, light on the skin and easily absorbed. Although Olly didn’t take off his top, we made sure he was covered in plenty of suncream. It takes approximately two tablespoons of suncream for a full body application and you can find out which SPF is suitable for your family here.

Lytham St Annes beach sandy toes

We had such a wonderful day on the beach. We were also celebrating our ninth wedding anniversary so enjoyed a treat of fish and chips with lashings of salt and vinegar in the beach hut. There’s something so calming about watching your child play in the sand whilst you lie back on a beach towel taking in the view.

We made sandcastles (with water from the sea when the tide was in) and enjoyed digging holes and playing hunt the sea shell and looking for buried treasure. There is nothing better than sandy toes, windswept hair and lungs full of salty sea air. It’s the perfect combo for a fantastic day.

Huge thanks to Boots Soltan for inviting us on our summer experience, we have come home with a few more freckles on our noses, sand in our shoes and very happy hearts.

Ooh this looks lovely, those beach huts are an amazing idea with the electricity etc! I’ve never heard of Lytham St Annes, I’m off to check out where it is.

The beach huts at Lytham have been on my summer bucket list for over 2 years now so I really must book one soon. We were in Lytham (I think the week before you) and we walked past them and they looked so much fun. You can’t beat the sea air for a great family break away can you x
