As a parent, you want to give your children the best. To give them the best upbringing you can provide with a safe and warm home, clean clothes, lots of love and attention and reassurance that you’ll be there for them whenever they need you. So what happens when your child stops breathing and you need to give them life saving first aid? Would you know what to do?
According to St Johns Ambulance, a baby stopping breathing is the single most feared emergency for parents with newborns and small children yet only one parent in every four, know what to do. St Johns Ambulance have created a short video with Nursery Rhymes Inc to give parents the knowledge of the crucial steps to follow in such an emergency.
As a parent of a young child, I urge you to watch the video to learn the crucial steps of what to do should you need to give a baby CPR. Even if you think you know what to do, watch the video as a reminder, it’s only short and won’t take up much of your time.
Luckily, I have never been in a situation where my first aid skills are needed. Before Olly was born, we attended a new parents-to-be class and learnt some techniques to help us should we ever need them as we embarked on our journey into the ever scary world of being a Mummy and Daddy. Over the last three years, with sleep deprivation and juggling everyday life, the skills we learnt have been forgotten so it’s always a good idea to brush up on these skills as a refresher for just in case whenever an emergency crops up.
Take a look, watch the video and learn the skills of baby CPR.
Disclosure: I haven’t been paid for this post, I just think it’s really important to share reminders of baby first aid.
