Goodnight Spaceman, London and Scooters #LittleLoves

What a week! It started off really well with a three day trip to London with my two favourite Shiltons where we had a fabulous time exploring, seeing the sights and spending some quality time with each other. It’s amazing how a few days away from home, away from the never-ending washing pile and the chores of daily life can be good for you. Unfortunately for the second half of the week I’ve had a stomach bug and ended up in bed for three days with no energy and an inability to sleep, bleugh!

Focusing on the fab stuff that we’ve done this week, here’s my #LittleLoves

I bought Olly a new book for bedtime Goodnight Spaceman by Michelle Robinson. It’s a book for children inspired by British Astronaut Tim Peake and his two sons who say goodnight to their space rockets and dream of all the adventures they could have out in space with their Dad.  Olly is loving all things space at the moment so I knew he’d love it.

I’ve been able to catch up on LOADS of television this week whilst lying in bed and I have loved been able to watch everything on my iPad. I’ve caught up on lots of documentaries and reality TV. Think Bear Grylls Mission Survive, Sex in Strange Places (with Stacey Dooley who I think is a brilliant presenter and isn’t worried about asking the questions you’re thinking) and Trauma Doctor, which is mad as I’m so squeamish but I am in awe of watching the doctors and nurses, paramedics and surgeons at work, they’re incredible!

I have loved hearing Olly’s stories and phrases this week. His adventures to London at the weekend have sparked a few made up stories, no idea where he gets his imagination from but they’re so funny and I love to hear how he links everything together. My favourite thing that Olly has said this week is when listening to hubby about starting his Postgrad course for his Masters (crazy fool!) Olly asked him if he was going to be a post man, awwwww!

A very tenuous link but we’ve made memories this week. We had a wonderful weekend in London. We stayed at a very posh hotel, ate fine food and visited some of the sights we have wanted to see for a while. We spent a couple of hours in Hyde Park having a scoot around the grounds of Kensington Palace. We went high up into the sky and over the Thames on the Emirates AirLine Cable Cars and braved it.

We took Olly into the Princess of Wales Memorial Playground which is fantastic and a must see. The Pirate Ship in the middle was Olly’s favourite.

I went up the London Eye solo as Olly was scared at how high it was so I enjoyed some amazing views of London whilst the boys checked out the London Aquarium. We managed to squeeze in a couple of hours in the Natural History Museum exploring the dinosaurs exhibition too! Whilst we were in the big smoke, we also met up with my brother-in-law and his partner who live in London, for dinner whilst we were down there which was lovely and Olly got to spend some time with his Uncles.

We borrowed a micro scooter and a helmet from the hotel and Olly got to ride around Hyde Park in style. It was great fun and Olly even handed the helmet over to me to try out the scooter which I have to say was a brilliant laugh. So funny and stupidly fast!

And lastly

Whilst we were in London, we were treated to a lovely evening meal at our hotel. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and ordered smoked haddock risotto for starters and it was a delight. So tasty and enjoyable. I really surprised myself as I don’t eat a lot of fish if any really. I’ll definitely be attempting to re-create the meal at some point using the fish (despite not knowing how on earth to cook a fish) but I like a challenge!

Sounds as if you had a wonderful break away in London. We are hoping to head down there in the summer and stay for a few night as we have only just done day trips before. Love the idea of the hotel lending Olly a scooter and a helmet, what a lovely idea. You should definitely try more fish Emma, you can’t beat a good SW fish pie. Have a great week x

Sounds like your break away in London was fab. I love the look of that book – my older two love space so they would adore it! Your meal sounds really nice – I love fish but rubbish at cooking it as well! xx
