Last year I was desperate to see some snowfall and introduce Olly to the white fluffy stuff. It never happened and we resorted to visiting the Snowdome in Tamworth to play in the fake snow. There’s something quite magical about snow, I love to watch it falling outside (when I’m at home in the warm obviously) and seeing it first thing in the morning all crisp, white and flawless.
As I went to bed very early Sunday morning (1am) it was snowing outside. It was gentle and rather peaceful but I didn’t hold out much hope that it would amount to much as we woke up a few hours later. When Olly came in to our bedroom well before I wanted to get up, we looked outside and saw there was a tiny dusting of snow on the ground and that was good enough for me.
We had planned to pick up my nephew and spend an hour over Cannock Chase to wear the boys out so the dusting of snow was a very welcome addition to our visit.
As you can imagine, Olly and my nephew absolutely loved the snow. Olly couldn’t wait to put his footprints in the fresh snow and jump in all the muddy puddles we came across as we made our way from the slushy wet car park through the forest. If you know Birches Valley, you’ll know there’s a clearing of land towards the top of the car park which is perfect for snow days. We spent a good half an hour playing in the snow, throwing snowballs, finding sticks and adapting already made snowmen with stones!
Olly still hasn’t mastered the art of keeping his gloves on so spent most of the hour we were out in the cold with freezing hands. His little cheeks were really red with the cold so an hour was just enough to play in to satisfy his curiosity.
I failed in making sure he was wearing appropriate clothing as I didn’t have any suitable trousers for him so he ended up with wet trousers and cold knees (I’ve since bought some waterproof trousers online in the sale just in case we have any more snow) and on the way home he was half dressed wrapped in a blanket getting warm.
We had a wonderful hour over the Chase playing in the snow and fingers crossed we get some more snow in the next few weeks to enjoy.
Did you see any snow fall? Are you a fan?
