Last week my little family and I went on a weeks holiday to the seaside town of Weymouth. We have wanted to take our little boy, Little Mr, on a Great British seaside holiday and was keen for him to experience a few of the things both my hubby and I did when we were of a similar age to our son. We wanted to build sandcastles on the beach, we wanted to enjoy fish and chips on the sea front and have a paddle in the cold British sea. We also wanted to explore the South coast as it’s part of the country we haven’t visited in many years and was keen to see it with a fresh pair of family orientated eyes.
Travelling by Car
Like most families with young children, we do a lot of exploring using our car. It’s great to fill the roomy boot up with essentials for a day trip out and set off on our adventures. The best thing about exploring in your own car is that it saves time (no waiting around for buses or trains), it’s comfortable (you can take your own cushions or blankets) your little ones will be safe in their car seats and you can fill the foot wells with magazines, books and car-friendly activities you can do in the car just in case you get stuck in any traffic.
Essentials to keep in the car on holiday
– Baby wipes (they aren’t just for babies)
– Bottle of water or two
– Picnic blanket
– Snacks that won’t go off quickly
– Notebook and a pencils
– In car phone charger
– Loose change for coastal car parks
Wish you were here!
We were based in Weymouth and decided to explore the coast to the east towards Bournemouth and west towards West Bay. We knew roughly where we wanted to go but just followed our noses and stopped at random places along the way. It was brilliant, we had such a fun week. Here are a few snaps from our favourite places from our adventures;
We are hoping to upgrade our car for next years adventures and have my eye on a very family friend Volkswagen Tiguan Diesel car. It’s all kinds of awesome! If you’re looking for a new family car, check out Parkway Contracts for new Volkswagen cars to suit your budget.
Do you like to travel around the UK by car? Where are your favourite places to visit? Would love to hear about your adventures.
