Gousto, is a food box delivery service with a difference. Each week, customers pick three delicious meals from a variety of ten and within the week, the ingredients are delivered to your door. All ingredients are fresh (and often from the field) and are measured portions with just enough for your recipe. All ingredients are accompanied with a recipe card with full instructions on how to cook the meal.
We were sent a box to review and couldn’t wait to get stuck in. We were delivered the ingredients for the following meals; One Pot Bacon Pasta, Waldorf-Style Chicken and Hoisin Pork.
The ingredients are really good. Gousto use British products from trusted partners who thrive on producing top quality products and it shows. The ingredients we were sent were all seasonal and really tasty.
The recipe cards are great. They give full, clear instructions on what ingredients need to be used (the recipes can be increased for up to 4 people) with step-by-step photographs that are easy to follow.
The ingredients are delivered either on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday and you need to use the ingredients within five days. This is obviously something you would need to bear in mind when ordering the recipe box.
The Gousto recipe box is available in four different type of boxes and can be chosen for 2 or 4 people.
- Meat box for 2 people – £34.99 per week / Meat box for 4 people – £49.99 per week
- Veggie box for 2 people – £33.99 per week / Veggie box for 4 people – £47.99 per week
There is free nationwide delivery with each box.
What we thought
The concept is brilliant. I love how convenient the service is. Pick three of your favourite meals and within a few days the ingredients are delivered fresh to your door ready for you to make the dish on whichever night you fancy. I cannot knock the ingredients, all fresh and ready to use. I love that they’re British too.
The meals were delicious. Full of flavour and our plates didn’t look too dissimilar to that of the photographs on the recipe cards. The best meal we had was the One Pot Bacon Pasta and even Little Mr tried it. The chilli had a fabulous kick and added warmth to the meal. We would definitely make this again.
The only downside for me would be tailoring the meals to suit my particular diet. Great for hubby but not so great for me but obviously this would be something you would consider when signing up to the service.
I also think the price is a bit too expensive for us to continue using the service. As a family, we like to meal plan and get quite a lot of food in our cupboards for our budget and therefore we couldn’t justify the price of the box each week. Whilst I personally don’t think the Gousto service is for us, it would be ideal for professional couples who want a delicious meal without the stress of shopping for all the different ingredients.
The folk at Gousto have very kindly given one lucky reader of Life According to MrsShilts the opportunity to win your own box so you too can try the Gousto service out at home. All you need to do is enter the rafflecopter below. Good luck!
