Celebrating Little Mr’s Second Birthday

birthday morning

At the weekend, we had a small family tea party to celebrate our Little Mr’s second birthday. We wasn’t going to do anything but knew that our immediate family wanted to do something so I organised a small get together to celebrate the milestone.

Little Mr is still really young so the concept of birthdays is still very new to him. He associates birthday with cake, balloons and presents so I wanted to spoil him a little bit and give him all of those things at home. I had great ideas for his birthday cake but then left it too late to order a cake from my friend who made his first birthday cake so had to do something myself.

the cake

Thanks to eBay and Pinterest, I gathered some ideas together and placed several orders for supplies. I ordered a number 2 silicon cake tin and my good friend Lucy gave me the recipe for a idiot proof Victoria sponge, thanks Lucy.

You know when you have an idea that is amazing but then in reality when you try to pull it off you just don’t have the skills, that! I was really disappointed with my efforts late on Saturday evening when I was decorating the cake. I just couldn’t get it to look how I wanted it but didn’t want to waste my time or the money I’d spent on ingredients so went with it. There’s definitely a skill involved with buttercream and I don’t have it!

Luckily for me, my lovely friends all agreed it was great and that Little Mr would love it so it survived and was placed on the table with a couple of candles and a decorative sparkler.

the decorations & party supplies

Little Mr is Disney Cars obsessed. The DVD has been on repeat in our house since Christmas and we literally know all the words to the film. Little Mr’s face lights up and he just loves it. I’m quite partial to it myself but would like to watch something different once in a while.

I had a look around for some decorations based on the Cars theme and found a great selection of themed party products from Party Delights. The selection was brilliant and included items such as balloons, paper plates, plastic cups, a fabulous cake stand, bunting, paper napkins and cocktail sticks with flags on. How fabulous!

The team at Party Delights wanted to help with Little Mr’s tea party so sent us a fantastic selection of Disney Cars themed products to use and they were very well received.

Cars Party Supplies from Party Delights

Little Mr especially loved the Cars plates and napkins as they featured his favourite characters from the film; Lightning McQueen. I really loved the Cars cake stand, it was easy to put together and has fantastic Cars illustrations around it. The supplies from Party Delights are brilliantly priced and we’ll definitely be looking at the selection of party products for any future parties.

the food

I ordered a selection of sandwiches from Sainsburys as I knew I wouldn’t have time to make them for the family before the party and they went down really well. We also bought other party food such as chicken legs, crisps, sausage rolls and cocktail sausages for everyone to enjoy. I knew that I probably wouldn’t be able to resist the deliciousness on offer so made myself some synfree campfire stew to enjoy after the party.

We had a lovely afternoon with our family and it was really nice to see Little Mr open some really thoughtful presents from his Grandparents, Aunty and Cousin and Uncles.

Disclaimer: We were sent the party supplies from Party Delights in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, words and photographs are my own.
