We have been working really hard to get our home safe for Little Mr now that he is into EVERYTHING. He’s so inquisitive, he likes to pick up keys, books, open drawers and pull stuff off shelves, mostly because he is so nosy and likes to know what everything is. We set about turning our dining room into a room where we could put the majority of Little Mr’s toys so that he could easily access them and play with them.
We live locally to an Ikea and we love their storage solutions so we took advantage of visiting when it’s at its most quiet and looked at the options available to us. We ended up buying a couple of Kallax units; one 4 x 4 unit and one 1 x 4, a Hemnes day bed with two mattresses and a Brimnes chest of drawer unit.
Once they had been delivered, we spent the weekend putting the flat packs together and putting the room in order. Since then we’ve been adding to the room with bedding, curtains, cushions and prints for the walls as well as looking at options for storing all our books. We’re yet to sort the shelves out but we know which ones we want and it’s just a case of having some free time to go and pick them up and then securing them to the wall.
We’re so pleased with how it’s all come together. It’s a really practical space which we can all use, we still have our dining table in the room so we can eat our meals together and the table is great for when we both have work to do or I want to do some crafting.
I’ve also bought some more prints for the wall which are yet to go up as I need some frames but when I saw this print from House Of Jack, I knew we had to have it.
The best thing is at the end of a busy day, we can throw the toys back into the storage boxes in the unit and the mess is all cleared up. A perfect solution for us all. It works and we know Little Mr can have as much fun as he likes in there and he’s not going to be playing with anything he shouldn’t have.
Next on my list of things to do is tackle the lounge. It needs a lot work including all the walls re-skimming so we best save up a bit for that!
