I’ve been tagged by the lovely Katy of Modern Mummy in the Mum Tag which is a little meme all about me and being a mum. I have to say, and as you probably already know, being a Mummy is probably the best thing that has ever happened to me.
1. Are you a stay at home mum, or a working mum?
I’m a working Mum, working part-time, four days per week and then I get to spend one day a week with my gorgeous boy.
2. Would you have it any other way?
Absolutely. I would like to work less hours so I get more time at home with Little Mr and go to a playgroup of some sort. I would love him to mix with more children his own age and I’m keen to break down a couple of anxiety issues and take him to a club to meet new friends. Unfortunately for the time being, our financial situation doesn’t allow for me to work any less hours but as soon as it does, I’d love to spend more time at home.
3. Do you co-sleep?
No. Little Mr slept in our room for the first 10 weeks but my hubby is/was a terrible snorer and was disturbing him at night. Since he has gone into his own room he sleeps a lot better. I do miss hearing him snooze away though.
4. What is your one must-have item for your baby?
My must have-item is our baby monitor. I sleep so much better in the knowing that I can see and hear him at any point in the night without having to go into his room and disturb him. We bought the iBaby Monitor after hearing great things about it from friends and can watch him through an app on our iPhones and iPads. I put it on as soon as he goes to bed. It’s a bit like watching Little Mr TV but it’s so reassuring, I wouldn’t be without it.
5. How many kids do you plan on having?
Ideally we would love two children. We are hopeful that in a couple of years we’ll be able to give Little Mr a brother or sister as we would like him to have a sibling like we had growing up. I have loved having my Sister being so close these last couple of years and I’d want my Son to have that chance of loving his sibling too.
6. Date night? How many per month?
Ha, what’s one of those? Our last date night was our wedding anniversary last August and we went to a new restaurant that had opened in West Bromwich. We definitely need to arrange another one soon now our lives are back on track.
7. Your child’s favourite show?
Little Mr loves everything on the Disney Junior channel. He is a fan of Mickey Mouse, Henry Hugglemonster, Jake and the Neverland Pirates and Doc McStuffins. I can’t blame him, I love the Disney Junior channel too and we have that on at home when we get chance.
8. Name one thing you bought before you had your baby and never ended up using?
I bought a lot of baby toiletries during my pregnancy as I thought it would be a good idea to stock up on the essentials when they were on sale in the supermarket baby events. Unfortunately, Little Mr has quite sensitive skin and most of the toiletries I bought for him, we can’t use so have been giving them to friends and family.
9. Your child’s favourite food?
Little Mr absolutely loves peas, fresh filled pasta and blueberries. He’s done so well with his eating and on a good day will demolish more than my 5 year old nephew.
10. How many cars does your family have?
We have two cars; a 3 door Corsa and a 5 door Mazda. The Corsa has been my pride and joy for the last 8 years but it has been a bit of a squeeze getting Little Mr in and out of the car. We’ve recently swapped cars so I’m using hubby’s Mazda and now hubby is driving again he’s using mine. We both work in different directions and I need a car for work so it make senses for us to have our own cars. I’d miss my independence desperately if I couldn’t just get in the car and drive wherever and whenever I want to.
11. Weight before, during and after pregnancy and now?
I am upset by the amount of weight I have put on since becoming pregnant with Little Mr. I’ve basically gained all the weight I lost pre-baby and now I’m desperate to lose it again. I’m plus-sized anyway and always have been but I’m not liking the size I am now. It’s uncomfortable, I don’t like the way I look and I hate the way it makes me feel.
12. Dream holiday with your kids?
My dream holiday would probably be in a private villa somewhere hot and sunny near a sandy beach. Although I would love to take Little Mr to Disneyland when he’s older so I guess we should start saving now!
13. Dream holiday without your kids?
I don’t think I could go on holiday with my baby. Holidays are times meant for families sharing quality time together and enjoying each others company. I wouldn’t be able to relax at all without him there.
14. How has your life changed since having babies?
Life is completely different when babies come along. You don’t have time to be selfish. You share everything; cuddles, food and other bodily fluids (gag!) I am completely emotional, pretty much all of the time. I can’t watch One Born Every Minute without sobbing. My outlook on life is very different and I’ve realised just how precious life is and how much we should get out of it.
15. Finish the sentence: ‘It makes my heart melt to see……?’
Little Mr learning something new and to see the smile on his face when he realises that he has achieved something. He’s a very clever poppet and I’m very proud of him. I posted a video just last night on Instagram of Little Mr lying down on the floor next to the dog. It was the first time he had done something like that and I’m so pleased I managed to capture it on film.
16. Where do you shop for your kids?
I’m a total sucker for Next clothes. They’re always really good quality, wash well and very trendy. We do shop at Mothercare, Tesco and Sainsburys too for every day clothes but Next have always come up trumps for the shirts and special occasion clothing.
17. Favourite make up and skin care products?
My make up routine is pretty rubbish at the moment. I’ve not been wearing make up to work as I just don’t have time to do it. I’m rubbish at putting it on too and would love a daytime make up makeover with lessons on how to apply it properly without looking like a drag queen! I like to use the Garnier Caffeine Eye Roll-On for when Little Mr has a sleepless night but I could do with a beauty overhaul. When I do wear make up I use make-up remover wipes and the odd facial scrub but I’m pretty lazy when it comes to make up but would love to know how to apply it properly.
18. Huggies or Pampers?
Pampers nappies and Huggies wipes!
19. Have you always wanted kids?
Always and a few years ago when I thought there was a possibility of me not being able to have children, I didn’t dare dream to imagine life with them, just in case it never happened. I’m so blessed to have my Little Mr and I really hope we can have another child in the not too distant future.
20. Best part about being a mum?
The best part of being a mum, aside from the smiles and the cuddles is seeing him achieve new things. I love teaching him new things and I’m very proud that he’s such a clever little boy. His speech is coming on really well and somedays there’s no shutting him up. He’s still not brilliant at saying Mummy or Mama but just this morning he said bye-bye to me and waved as I left him at his Grandparents house.
