Today we took Little Mr to visit Santa for the first time. It’s something we wanted to do as a family so we could enjoy the moment and savour it. I’d looked at various different places locally where Little Mr could go and visit Santa in his Grotto but I was unsure how he would react to a complete stranger with a beard (in fear of him pulling it like he does to his Daddy’s!) We decided to go to a local Garden Centre where there was a Santa’s Grotto so he could visit the main man and put his request in for Christmas.
Of course, Little Mr is only 9 months old so had no idea what he was doing visiting a man in a red suit with a beard bigger than Daddy’s in a darkened room with twinkly lights all over the place. But, it was magical. The Santa sitting in the Grotto looked like the real Santa, he had a real white and grey beard and he was really kind and gentle to Little Mr. He sat him on his knee and talked to him, not us. Santa asked him lots of questions (I helped answer
most all of them) and Little Mr was given a gift to open (which he ripped open and then tried to eat it!)
It was a brief encounter lasting only 5 minutes but it was a brilliant five minutes where we began one of our new Christmas traditions, visiting Santa and having a photograph taken.
In years to come, we will very probably go all out and enjoy a train ride to see Santa in his Grotto but this year we wanted to enjoy the simplicity of meeting Santa without the crowds and the added fuss. It was perfect and I really hope Little Mr will enjoy his annual visit to see Santa in the years to come.
